Airbag non-deployment conditions
In this manual: Airbag non-deployment conditions
~2min read

- In certain low-speed collisions, the airbags may not deploy. The airbags are designed not to deploy in such cases, because under these conditions they cannot provide better protection than the seat belts.

- The front airbags are not designed to deploy in rear impacts, because occupants are thrown rearward by the force of such collisions. In such a case, deployed airbags would be unable to provide additional benefit.

- The front airbags may not deploy in side collisions, because occupants move toward the point of impact; therefore, in a side impact, deploying the front airbags would not provide additional protection to the occupants.

- If the collision plane is inclined or the impact occurs at a large angle, the force of the impact may direct occupants in a direction where the airbags cannot provide additional protection, so the sensors will not trigger deployment of any airbags.

- Just before a collision, the driver often brakes suddenly. Such strong braking causes the front of the vehicle to dip and drive under a vehicle with higher ground clearance. The airbags may not deploy in this situation, because the braking forces detected by the sensors may be replaced by the collision forces caused by driving under another vehicle.

- The airbags may not deploy during a rollover, because they would not provide protection to the occupants.

- The airbags may not deploy if the vehicle collides with objects such as trees or poles, where the impact area is very concentrated, so its force is not transmitted to the sensors.
