Older children
Children who are too large for a suitable child restraint should always sit on the rear seats and use the available three-point seat belts. The lap portion should fit snugly across the hips, as low as possible. Check the fit of the seat belts periodically. While moving in the seat, a child may accidentally move the belt into an incorrect position. Children are best protected when properly secured in a suitable child restraint installed on the rear seat. If an older child (over 12 years old) must sit in the front seat, they must be securely fastened with the available three-point seat belt, and the seat should be moved as far back as possible. Children under 12 years old should always be safely secured on the rear seat. NEVER seat a child under 12 years old in the front seat.
NEVER place a rear-facing child restraint on the front passenger seat.
If the shoulder portion of the belt touches the child's neck or face in any way, try moving the child closer to the center of the vehicle. If the belt still touches the child's face or neck, the child should use a child restraint again.
WARNING - Shoulder belts and small children- While driving, never allow the shoulder belt to be positioned at the child's neck or face.
- If children's seat belts are not properly fastened and adjusted, there is a risk of death or serious injury.
