WARNING - ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS! Engine exhaust can be very dangerous. If you ever smell engine exhaust inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately.
  • Do not breathe in exhaust gases.

Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by suffocation.

  • Make sure the exhaust system is leak-free.

Whenever the vehicle is raised for an oil change or any other purpose, the exhaust system should also be inspected. If the exhaust sounds different or something strikes the underbody while driving, the exhaust system should be inspected as soon as possible by an authorized Kia dealer.

  • Do not run the engine in enclosed spaces.

Letting the engine idle in a garage, even with the door open, is dangerous. Never leave the engine running in a garage longer than necessary to start the engine and drive the vehicle out.

  • Avoid letting the engine idle for extended periods while people are in the vehicle.
If it is necessary to leave the engine idling for an extended period while people are in the vehicle, make sure the vehicle is in an open area, the air intake is set to "Fresh", and the blower is set to one of the higher speeds to supply fresh air into the vehicle.

If the vehicle is driven with the tailgate open due to cargo whose size prevents the tailgate from closing, you must:

  1. Close all windows.
  2. Open the side ventilation vents.
  3. Set the air intake control to "Fresh", the airflow control to "Floor" or "Face", and the blower to one of the higher speeds.

To ensure proper operation of the ventilation system, always keep the air intakes located directly in front of the windshield clear of snow, ice, leaves, or other objects that may block them.
