Engine Start/Stop Button Location
OFF
With Manual Transmission
To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the vehicle power (ON position), stop the vehicle, then press the engine START/STOP button.
With Automatic Transmission / Dual Clutch Transmission
To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the vehicle power (ON position), press the engine START/STOP button with the shift lever in P (Park). If you press the engine START/STOP button when the shift lever is not in P (Park), the engine START/STOP button will not change to the OFF position but to the ACC position.
Vehicles with Steering Column Anti-Theft Lock
The steering wheel locks when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position to help protect you from theft. It locks when the driver's door is open.
If the steering wheel is not properly locked when the driver's door is opened, a warning chime will sound. Try locking the steering wheel again. If the problem is not resolved, have the system inspected by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
In addition, if the engine START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the driver's door is opened, the steering wheel will not lock and a warning sound will be heard. In this situation, close the door. The steering wheel will then lock and the warning sound will stop.
NOTICE
If the steering wheel is not properly unlocked, the engine START/STOP button will not operate. Press the engine START/STOP button while turning the steering wheel to the right and left to release the tension.
NOTICE
You can turn off the engine (START/RUN) or the vehicle power (ON) only when the vehicle is not moving.
CAUTION
In an emergency while the vehicle is moving, you can turn off the engine and switch to ACC by pressing and holding the Engine Start/Stop button for more than 2 seconds, or by pressing it 3 times in succession within 3 seconds.
If the vehicle is still moving, to restart the vehicle:
- Manual transmission: Press the Engine Start/Stop button with the shift lever in neutral and the clutch pedal depressed.
- Automatic transmission / dual clutch transmission: Press the Engine Start/Stop button when vehicle speed is 5 km/h or more.

NOTICE
If you press the engine start/stop button without depressing the clutch pedal on vehicles with a manual transmission, or without depressing the brake pedal on vehicles with an automatic transmission or dual clutch transmission, the engine will not start and the engine start/stop button will change as follows:
OFF → ACC → ON → OFF or ACC
NOTICE
If you leave the engine start/stop button in the ACC or ON position for a long time, the battery will discharge.
WARNING
- Never press the Engine Start/Stop button while the vehicle is moving. This will result in loss of steering control and braking function, which may cause an accident.
- The steering column lock does not replace the parking brake. Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever is in P (Park), fully apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. If these precautions are not taken, the vehicle may move unexpectedly and suddenly.
- Never reach for the Engine Start/Stop button or other controls through the steering wheel while the vehicle is moving. Having your hand or arm in this area may cause loss of vehicle control, an accident, and serious injury or death.
- Do not place any loose objects around the driver's seat, as they may move while driving, interfere with the driver, and cause an accident.
