Starting the Engine
WARNING
- Always wear appropriate footwear when driving. Inappropriate footwear (high heels, ski boots, etc.) may prevent you from operating the brake, accelerator, and clutch pedals properly.
- Do not start the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed. The vehicle may move suddenly and cause an accident.
- Wait until the engine speed returns to normal. The vehicle may move suddenly if the brake pedal is released while the engine speed is high.
NOTICE
Kickdown Mechanism
Use the kickdown mechanism for maximum acceleration. Depress the accelerator pedal beyond the detent point. The automatic transmission will downshift depending on engine speed.
Starting the Gasoline Engine
1. Carry the electronic key or leave it in the vehicle.
2. Make sure the parking brake is firmly applied.
3. Manual transmission: Fully depress the clutch pedal and shift the transmission into neutral. Keep the clutch and brake pedals depressed while starting the engine. Automatic transmission / dual clutch transmission: Move the shift lever to P (Park). Fully depress the brake pedal. You can also start the engine when the shift lever is in N (Neutral).
4. Press the engine Start/Stop button. Do not depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.
5. Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle is stationary. Start driving at moderate engine speed. Avoid rapid acceleration and braking.
Starting and Stopping the Engine for the Turbocharger Intercooler
1. Do not drive or accelerate the engine immediately after starting. If the engine is cold, idle for several seconds before driving to ensure sufficient lubrication to the turbocharger.
2. After high-speed or prolonged driving under heavy engine load, let the engine idle for about 1 minute before turning it off. This idle period allows the turbocharger to cool down before the engine is shut off.
CAUTION
Do not turn off the engine immediately after it has been under heavy load. This may cause serious damage to the engine or turbocharger.
Starting the Engine with the Smart Key
- Even if the smart key is inside the vehicle, the engine may not start if the key is far away from you.
- When the Engine Start/Stop button is in the ACC or higher position, if any door is opened, the system checks for the smart key. If the smart key is not in the vehicle, the " " indicator and the message "Key not in vehicle" will appear on the instrument cluster and LCD display. If all doors are closed, a chime will sound for 5 seconds. The indicator or warning will turn off while the vehicle is moving. Always keep the smart key with you.
WARNING
The engine will start only when the smart key is inside the vehicle. Never allow children or anyone unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the Engine Start/Stop button or related components.
CAUTION
If the engine stalls while the vehicle is moving, do not attempt to shift the shift lever to the P (Park) position. If traffic and road conditions permit, you may shift the lever to N (Neutral) when the vehicle is moving and press the engine START/STOP button to attempt restarting the engine.

NOTICE
- If the battery is discharged or the Smart Key is not working properly, you can start the engine by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button with the Smart Key. The side with the lock button must touch the ENGINE START/STOP button directly. When pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button directly with the Smart Key, the Smart Key must contact the button at a right angle.
- If the STOP lamp fuse has blown, you cannot start the engine normally. Replace the fuse with a new one. If this is not possible, you can start the engine by pressing the ENGINE START/STOP button for 10 seconds when it is in the ACC position. The engine may start without pressing the brake pedal. However, for your safety, always press the brake pedal and clutch pedal (if equipped) before starting the engine.
CAUTION
- Do not press the ENGINE START/STOP button for more than 10 seconds, except when the STOP lamp fuse has blown.
- Do not turn the ignition key to the START position while the engine is running. This may damage the starter.
Stopping the Gasoline/Diesel Engine (Manual Transmission)
1. Make sure the vehicle is completely stopped, and keep the clutch pedal and brake pedal depressed.
2. Shift the transmission into neutral while depressing the clutch and brake pedals.
3. Apply the parking brake by pressing the parking brake pedal.
4. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and remove it.
