Immobilizer
The immobilizer allows the engine to start only when the system recognizes the key.
If someone attempts to start the engine with an unrecognized key, the engine will not start, which helps prevent vehicle theft.
If you have a problem with the immobilizer system or the key, consult an authorized Mazda dealer.
CAUTION
Any changes or modifications made without express approval from the party responsible for compliance may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
To avoid damaging the key:
- Do not drop it.
- Do not get it wet.
- Do not expose it to any magnetic fields.
- Do not expose it to high temperatures, such as on the dashboard or engine compartment cover, where it is exposed to direct sunlight.
- If the engine does not start with the correct key and the security indicator light is on or flashing, the system may be faulty. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
CAUTION
The key has a unique electronic code. For this reason, and for security, replacing a key takes time.
Keys can only be obtained from an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Keep a spare key in case of emergency. If a key is lost, consult a Mazda Authorized Dealer as soon as possible.
If a key is lost, the Authorized Mazda Dealer will erase the electronic codes of your remaining keys and of the immobilizer system. Therefore, you must bring all remaining keys to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
The vehicle cannot be started with a key that has not been programmed.
Operation
CAUTION
The engine may not start, and the security indicator light may be on or flashing, if the key is placed where the system has difficulty detecting its signal, e.g., on the instrument panel or in the glove box.
Move the key to another location, turn the ignition off, then start the engine.
Signals from radio or TV stations, transmitters or mobile phones may interfere with the vehicle immobilizer system. If you are using the correct key and the engine does not start, check the security indicator light.
Arming
The system arms when the ignition switch is turned from the ON position to the OFF position.
The security indicator light in the instrument cluster flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.
Disarming
The system disarms when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position using the correct programmed key. The security indicator light will come on for about 3 seconds and then go off. If the engine does not start with the correct key and the security indicator light is on or flashing, try the following: Check that the key is within the range of the signal transmission. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then restart the engine. If the engine does not start after 3 or more attempts, contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
CAUTION
If the security indicator light flashes while driving, do not stop the engine.
Drive to the nearest Authorized Mazda Dealer to have the vehicle checked. If you turn off the engine while the light is flashing, it will not be possible to restart it.
Because the security electronic codes will be erased during repair of the immobilizer system, keys will be required.
Bring all keys to an Authorized Mazda Dealer for programming.
