Alarm system
If the alarm system detects an attempt to open the vehicle or the interior motion sensor detects movement inside the vehicle, which may indicate theft of the vehicle (equipped with a motion sensor) or of items inside it, the alarm will sound the horn and flash the hazard warning lights.
The system does not function until it is properly armed. When leaving the vehicle, arm the system correctly.
Interior motion sensor*
The ultrasonic sensor detects movement inside the vehicle and triggers the alarm in the event of a break-in.
The alarm sensor detects certain types of movement inside the vehicle, but it may react to external factors such as vibration, noise and wind.
CAUTION
To ensure the interior motion sensor operates correctly, observe the following recommendations:
- Do not hang clothing or items on the headrests or hangers.
- Return the sun visors to their original position.
- Do not block the alarm motion sensor by covering it or placing items on it.
- Do not allow the sensor to become dirty and do not wipe it with liquids.
- Do not shake or strike the sensor or its housing.
- Do not install seats or seat covers that are not genuine Mazda products.
- To prevent blocking the sensor, do not place objects or luggage near the sensor above the height of the headrests.

Operation
Conditions that trigger the horn
The horn sounds intermittently and the hazard warning lights flash for 30 seconds when the system is triggered by:
- Unlocking the door using the interior door lock lever.
- Forced opening of a door, the hood or the trunk lid.
- Opening the hood using the hood release lever.
- Turning the ignition switch to the ON position without using the start button.
- (With motion sensor) Detection of movement inside the vehicle by the interior motion sensor.
The alarm will trigger again (up to 10 times) if any of the above causes persists.
- (With motion sensor) When the battery is disconnected (hazard warning lights do not flash).
The alarm will sound approximately 10 times.
CAUTION
While the alarm system is active, the trunk lid does not open.
If the battery discharges while the alarm is armed, the horn will sound and the hazard warning lights will start flashing when the battery is recharged or replaced.
How to arm the system
1. Close all windows completely.
CAUTION
(With motion sensor) The system can be armed even with a window open, however, leaving a window even partially open may invite theft, and gusts of wind may trigger the alarm.
The alarm motion sensor can be turned off.
See the section "Deactivating the Interior Motion Sensor / Tilt Sensor" on page 3-49.
2. Turn the ignition off.
3. Make sure the hood, doors and trunk lid are closed.
4. Press the lock button on the transmitter or lock the driver's door from the outside using the auxiliary key.
The hazard warning lights flash once.
(With advanced keyless entry system) Press the request button.
The security indicator light on the instrument cluster flashes twice per second for 20 seconds.
5. After 20 seconds, the alarm is fully armed.
CAUTION
The alarm system can also be armed if the automatic re-lock function is activated when all doors, the trunk lid and the hood are closed.
See "Transmitter" on page 3-5.
The alarm will be disarmed if one of the following actions is performed within 20 seconds after pressing the lock button:
Unlock the doors.
Open any door.
Open the hood.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(With advanced keyless entry system) Press the power trunk opener button while the key is within operating range.
To re-arm the system, repeat the arming procedure.
When the doors are locked with the transmitter by pressing the lock button on the transmitter or the spare key while the alarm system is armed, the hazard warning lights flash once to indicate that the alarm system is armed.
- Disabling the interior motion sensor (With motion sensor)
When the alarm is armed and one of the following situations occurs, disable the alarm motion sensor to prevent unnecessary activation.
(Interior motion sensor)
- Leaving movable objects, passengers or animals in the vehicle.
- Leaving objects in the vehicle that may move when the vehicle is parked on an uneven surface.
- Hanging small items/accessories, clothes on a clothes hanger, or placing other items that can easily move in the vehicle.
- Parking in locations with strong vibrations or noise levels.
- In high-pressure or automatic car washes.
- Prolonged impacts and vibrations caused by hail and storms.
- Locking the doors with the windows open.
- Operating an auxiliary heater or a device that causes air movement and vibration while the alarm system is armed.
CAUTION
If any door or the trunk lid remains closed for 30 seconds, all doors and the trunk lid will be automatically locked again and the alarm system will be armed, even if the windows are left open.
To disable the motion sensor, press the sensor disable button on the transmitter within 20 seconds after pressing the lock button.
The hazard warning lights flash three times.
CAUTION
To reactivate the alarm motion sensor, disarm the alarm and then arm it again.
The motion sensor is active when the alarm is armed. To disable the motion sensor, press the motion sensor disable button on the transmitter each time the alarm system is armed.
