Keys
WARNING
Do not leave keys in the vehicle when children are present. Keep keys out of reach of children so they cannot play with them. Leaving children in the vehicle with a key is dangerous.
This may result in serious injury or even death. Children are attracted to keys. With a key, they may operate the power windows or other devices, or even cause the vehicle to move.
CAUTION
Because the key (transmitter) emits low-intensity radio waves, the key may malfunction under the following conditions:
- Near telecommunication equipment such as mobile phones
- When it is in contact with or covered by metal objects.
- Near electronic devices such as personal computers.
- When the signal is interfered with by additional electronic devices installed in the vehicle that are not genuine Mazda accessories
- When there are devices interfering with radio waves near the vehicle.
The key (transmitter) battery may become excessively discharged if the key receives high-intensity radio waves. Do not place the smart key near electronic devices such as televisions or computers.
To avoid damaging the key (transmitter):
- Do not drop it.
- Do not get it wet.
- Do not disassemble it.
- Do not expose it to high temperatures, such as on the dashboard or engine compartment cover, where it is exposed to direct sunlight.
- Do not expose it to any magnetic fields.
- Do not place heavy objects on it.
- Do not place it in ultrasonic cleaning equipment.
- Do not place any objects that generate a magnetic field near it.
The key code number is stamped on the tag supplied with the key set. Detach the tag and store it in a safe place (not in the vehicle) so you can use it if an additional key needs to be made.
Write down the code number and keep it in a safe, accessible place, but not in the vehicle.
If a key is lost, contact a Mazda Authorized Dealer and provide the key code number.
CAUTION
For the system to operate properly, you must have the key with you.
Keep a spare key in case of emergency. If a key is lost, consult a Mazda Authorized Dealer as soon as possible.

To use the mechanical key, press the button and remove the key from the transmitter.

Remote Central Locking System
The key has buttons for remotely locking and unlocking the doors and tailgate, and for opening the tailgate.
This system allows you to start the engine without taking the key out of your pocket or bag.
On vehicles equipped with an alarm system, this system can also be used to arm and disarm the alarm.
Press the buttons slowly and carefully.
The warning lights or warning chimes shown below indicate a malfunction of the system or give a warning.
- KEY warning light (red). See "Warning/Indicator Lights" on page 4-40.
- Ignition switch not in Off (STOP) warning chime. See "Ignition Switch Not in Off (STOP) Warning Chime" on page 7-48.
- Key left in vehicle warning chime. See "Key Left in Vehicle Warning Chime" on page 7-48.
If you have any problems with the key, contact a specialist. We recommend a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
If your key is lost or stolen, consult a Mazda Authorized Dealer as soon as possible to deactivate the lost key and have a new key made.
CAUTION
Any changes or modifications made without express approval from the party responsible for compliance may void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
CAUTION
The operating range of the remote central locking system may vary depending on local conditions.
The system works (locking/unlocking the doors/tailgate) when the ignition switch is off. The system does not work if the ignition switch is in any position other than OFF.
If the key does not work when a button is pressed or its operating range is very short, the battery may be discharged. To install a new battery, see "Replacing the Key Battery" (page 6-42).
Battery life is approximately one year. Replace the battery with a new one if the KEY indicator light (green) flashes in the instrument cluster. It is recommended to replace the battery about once a year, because depending on the degree of battery depletion, the KEY warning/indicator light may not illuminate or may flash.

Additional keys are available from Mazda Authorized Dealers. A maximum of 6 transmitters can be used with one vehicle in the remote entry system.
If additional keys are needed, bring all existing keys to a Mazda Authorized Dealer.
Transmitter
CAUTION
(European models) The headlights can be turned on/off using the transmitter. See "Follow-Me-Home Lighting System" on page 4-67.
(With alarm system) The hazard warning lights flash when the alarm system is armed or disarmed.
See "Alarm System" on page 3-47.
(With advanced remote entry system (European models)) The settings can be changed so that an audible signal confirms locking or unlocking of the doors and tailgate using the key.
(With advanced remote entry system (Non-European models))
An audible signal confirming locking or unlocking of the doors and tailgate using the key may sound. The audible signal can be turned off.
The volume of this sound can also be changed.
See the "Customizable Features" section on page 9-13.
To change the settings, proceed as follows.
1. Switch off the ignition and close all doors and the tailgate.
2. Open the driver's door.
3. Within 30 seconds of opening the driver's door, press and hold the LOCK button on the key for at least 5 seconds.
All doors and the tailgate will lock and an audible signal will sound at the currently set volume. (If the audible signal is currently off, it will not sound.)
The setting changes each time the LOCK button on the key is pressed, and the audible signal sounds at the set volume. (If the audible signal is off, it will not sound.)
4. The setting change ends when one of the following actions is performed:
The ignition switch is set to ACC or ON.
The driver's door is closed.
The tailgate is opened.
The key is not used for 10 seconds.
Any button other than the LOCK button on the key is pressed.
Request button pressed
The indicator light illuminates when the transmitter buttons are pressed.
Lock button
To lock the doors and tailgate, press the lock button.
The hazard warning lights flash once.
(With advanced remote entry system (Non-European models)) The audible signal will sound once.
CAUTION
(European models) If any door is open, the doors and tailgate cannot be locked using the lock button. The hazard warning lights will not flash.
(Non-European models) If the tailgate or any door is open, the remaining doors will not lock when the lock button is pressed. The hazard warning lights will not flash.
(With i-stop (European models)) Removing the key from the vehicle, closing all doors and pressing the lock button on the key while i-stop is operating (engine stopped) will switch off the ignition and lock all doors. (The steering wheel is also locked.)
See “i-stop” on page 4-15.
After pressing the button, make sure that all doors and the tailgate are locked.
(With double-lock system) Pressing the lock button twice within 3 seconds activates the double-lock system.
