Operation and maintenance

Wiper blades

~1min read

CAUTION

Hot wax applied at automatic car washes reduces the wipers' cleaning effectiveness.

To prevent damage to the wiper blades, do not wipe them or the area near them with gasoline, paraffin, paint thinner, or other solvents.

When the wiper control lever is in AUTO and the ignition switch is in ON, the wipers may operate automatically in the following cases:

  • If you touch the windshield above the rain sensor.
  • When the windshield is wiped with a cloth above the rain sensor.
  • If you strike the windshield with your hand or another object.
  • If you strike the rain sensor with your hand or another object from inside the vehicle.

Do not put your hands or fingers under the wiper arms, as this may cause injury or damage the wipers. When washing or servicing the vehicle, make sure the wiper control lever is in the OFF position.

Dirt on the windshield or wiper blades can reduce wiper performance. Common causes include insects, tree resin, and hot wax used at car washes.

If the wiper blades do not clean the windshield properly, clean the windshield and blades with a cleaning agent or mild detergent, then rinse the windshield with clean water. Repeat if necessary.
