Brake/Clutch Fluid

~2min read

Checking the Brake/Clutch Fluid Level

The brakes and the clutch use fluid from the same reservoir.

Periodically check the fluid level in the reservoir. The level must be kept at the MAX line.

This is a normal condition associated with brake pad and clutch facing wear. If the fluid level is excessively low, have the brake/clutch system checked by an authorized Mazda dealer.

Adding Brake/Clutch Fluid

WARNING

Take care not to spill brake fluid on yourself or on the engine:

Spilled brake fluid is dangerous. If it gets into your eyes, it can cause serious injury. In that case, immediately flush your eyes with water and consult a doctor. Brake fluid spilled on a hot engine can cause a fire.

If the brake/clutch fluid level is low, have the brakes and clutch inspected:

Low brake/clutch fluid level is dangerous. A low level may indicate brake pad wear or a leak in the brake system. The brakes may not function, which can cause an accident.

If the fluid level is low, add fluid up to the MAX line.

Before adding fluid, thoroughly clean the area around the reservoir cap.

WARNING

  • Brake/clutch fluid damages painted surfaces. If brake or clutch fluid comes into contact with a painted surface, immediately wash it off with water.
  • Using a brake/clutch fluid other than the specified one (page 9-4) will damage the systems. Mixing different fluids can also damage the systems. If you need to add brake/clutch fluid frequently, consult an authorized Mazda dealer.
