Replacing the battery

~2min read

If the key fob buttons do not work and the operation indicator does not flash, the battery may be discharged.

Replace with a new battery before the key fob becomes unusable.

WARNING

  • Check that the battery is installed correctly. The battery may leak if it is not installed correctly.
  • When replacing the battery, be careful not to touch internal circuits or electrical terminals, do not bend the electrical terminals, and do not allow dirt to enter the key fob, as this may damage it.
  • There is a risk of explosion if the battery is not replaced correctly.
  • Dispose of used batteries following the instructions below.
  • Insulate the positive and negative terminals by covering them with insulating tape or equivalent.
  • Never disassemble the battery.
  • Never throw the battery into fire or water.
  • Never deform or crush a battery.
  • Replace only with the same type of battery (CR2025 or equivalent).

The following conditions indicate that the battery is discharged:

  • The KEY indicator (green) flashes on the instrument panel for about 30 seconds after the engine is switched off (on vehicles equipped with a Type A instrument cluster, messages are displayed on the instrument panel).
  • The system does not operate, and the transmitter operation indicator does not flash when the buttons are pressed.
  • The operating range of the system is reduced.

It is recommended that the battery be replaced at an authorized Mazda dealer to avoid damaging the key.
