Parktronic
Important safety notes
WARNINGPARKTRONIC is only a driver assistance system and cannot always detect all obstacles. It cannot replace your attentiveness.
You are solely responsible for safety and must continue to monitor your immediate surroundings when maneuvering. Otherwise, you expose yourself and others to danger.
WARNINGMake sure that no people or animals are in the maneuvering area. Otherwise, they could be injured.
When maneuvering, pay particular attention to objects located above or below the sensors (such as flower planters or drawbars, for example). PARKTRONIC cannot detect these objects when they are very close. You could damage the vehicle or the objects. The sensors may not be able to detect snow or objects that absorb ultrasound.
Ultrasound sources, such as car washes, pneumatic braking systems of trucks or pneumatic hammers, can interfere with PARKTRONIC operation.
PARKTRONIC may not function correctly on rough terrain
PARKTRONIC is an electronic parking aid that works with ultrasound. It shows the distance between the vehicle and an obstacle, both visually and audibly.
PARKTRONIC is activated automatically when
- you switch on the ignition
- you shift the transmission to D, R or N (vehicles with automatic transmission)
- you release the electric parking brake
PARKTRONIC is deactivated when the speed exceeds 18 km/h. It is reactivated automatically when the speed drops below 18 km/h.
PARKTRONIC monitors the area around the vehicle with 6 sensors in the front bumper and 4 sensors in the rear bumper.
Sensor range
General notes

- Sensors in the front bumper, left side (example)

Side view

Top view
The sensors must be free of dirt, ice and slush. Otherwise, they may not function correctly. Clean the sensors regularly, taking care not to scratch or damage them.
Front sensors
| Centre | approx. 100 cm |
| Corners | approx. 60 cm |
Rear sensors
| Centre | approx. 120 cm |
| Corners | approx. 80 cm |
Minimum distance
| Centre | approx. 20 cm |
| Corners | approx. 20 cm |
When an obstacle is within this zone, the corresponding display segments light up and a warning signal sounds.
At closer range, the distance may no longer be displayed.
Displays
The displays show the distance between the sensors and obstacles. The displays for the front zone are located on the instrument panel, above the centre air vents. The displays for the rear zone are located at the rear, on the roof lining.

Displays for the front zone
- Segments for the left side of the vehicle
- Segments for the right side of the vehicle
- Segments indicating that the system is operational
For each side of the vehicle, the display has 5 orange segments and 2 red segments. If orange segment 3 is lit, PARKTRONIC is operational.
The position of the gear selector or automatic transmission selector and the direction of travel of the vehicle determine which displays are activated when the engine is running.
Manual transmission:
| Gear lever position | Displays activated |
| Forward gear or Point m |
Front zone |
| Reverse gear or the vehicle is moving in reverse | Front and rear zone |
Automatic transmission:
| Transmission position | Displays activated |
| D | Front zone |
| R, N or the vehicle is moving in reverse | Front and rear zone |
| P | None |
When the vehicle approaches an obstacle, one or more segments light up depending on the distance.
From the
- 6th segment, a intermittent warning signal sounds for approx. 2 seconds.
- 7th segment, a continuous warning signal sounds for approx. 2 seconds. The minimum detection distance has been reached.
Deactivating and activating PARKTRONIC

- Indicator
- Deactivating and activating PARKTRONIC
When indicator 1 is lit, PARKTRONIC is deactivated.
PARKTRONIC is activated automatically when you turn the key to position 2 in the ignition switch.Towing a trailer
Fold down the tow ball when you are not using the towing device. The minimum detection distance of an obstacle by PARKTRONIC refers to the bumper and not to the tow ball.Monitoring of the rear zone by PARKTRONIC is deactivated as soon as the electrical connection between the trailer and the vehicle is established.
PARKTRONIC problems
| Problem | Possible causes/consequences and solutions |
| Only the red segments of the PARKTRONIC displays light up. In addition, a warning signal sounds for approx. 2 seconds. PARKTRONIC is deactivated after a few seconds and the indicator built into the PARKTRONIC button lights up. |
PARKTRONIC has a malfunction and is deactivated.
|
| Only the red segments of the PARKTRONIC displays light up. PARKTRONIC is deactivated after a few seconds. | The PARKTRONIC sensors are dirty or faulty.
Another radio or ultrasonic source may be interfering with the system.
