Active Parking Assist
General notes
Active Parking Assist is an electronic system that works with ultrasound. It measures the space at the roadside on both sides of your vehicle. When you are looking for a parking space, it indicates suitable spaces with a corresponding symbol. The electronics can then assist you during manoeuvres with active steering.
PARKTRONIC must also be available. If PARKTRONIC is deactivated, Active Parking Assist is also not available.
Use Active Parking Assist for parking spaces that are
- parallel to the direction of travel
- located on straight roads (not on bends)
- located at the same level as the road (not on the pavement, for example)
Important safety notes
WARNINGActive Parking Assist is only an assistance system and may indicate parking spaces that are not suitable for parking, for example due to a parking prohibition, in front of an entrance or exit, because of an unsuitable surface, etc.
Active Parking Assist measures parking spaces as you drive past them. It does not take into account subsequent changes (such as a change in position of a vehicle parked in front or behind, or objects moving into the parking space, etc.).
Active Parking Assist also cannot replace your attention. If you rely solely on Active Parking Assist, you may cause an accident and injure yourself or other people.
You are solely responsible for safety. Monitor your immediate surroundings at all times when maneuvering.
WARNINGObjects located above the detection zone of the Active Park Assist are not detected when measuring the parking space. They are also not taken into account when calculating the maneuver. This applies in particular to protruding loads, overhangs or loading ramps on trucks. Active Park Assist may then steer too early to enter the space, and a collision may occur. For this reason, Active Park Assist must not be used in these situations.
WARNINGDuring the maneuver, the front of the vehicle swings toward oncoming vehicles.
In certain circumstances, the vehicle may encroach on the opposite lane.
You are solely responsible for safety and must monitor road users who are approaching or overtaking you while you are maneuvering. If necessary, stop or interrupt the maneuver initiated by Active Park Assist.
WARNINGMake sure that no people or animals are in the maneuvering area. Otherwise, they could be injured.
When you cannot avoid obstacles (such as kerbs), always drive over them at low speed and at an obtuse angle. Otherwise, you risk damaging the wheel rims and tyres.Parking notes:
- On narrow streets, drive as close as possible to the parking space.
- Parking spaces that are dirty, covered with vegetation or delimited by a curb may not be recognized, or may be recognized incorrectly.
- In snowfall or heavy rain, the measurement of parking spaces may be inaccurate.
- During the maneuver, also pay attention to the PARKTRONIC indicators.
- You can correct the steering at any time while the maneuver is in progress. In this case, Active Park Assist is deactivated.
- Do not use Active Park Assist if you are carrying a load that extends beyond the vehicle.
- Do not use Active Park Assist if snow chains are fitted.
- Always check that the tire pressure is correct. It directly affects the vehicle's behavior during the maneuver.
- The position of your vehicle in the parking space at the end of guidance depends on several factors. These factors are the position and shape of the vehicles parked in front and behind, and the layout of the space. In some cases, Active Park Assist may take you too far into or not far enough into the space. It may also cause you to drive onto the sidewalk. If necessary, interrupt the maneuver with Active Park Assist.
- You can also engage forward gear too early. The vehicle then changes direction and does not use the full width of the space. If the gear change is made too early to reach a satisfactory parking position, the maneuver is interrupted.
Detecting a parking space
Active Park Assist is activated automatically in forward gear. It operates up to a speed of approximately 35 km/h. It automatically searches for available parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle and measures them. When the speed is below 30 km/h, the parking symbol is shown in the instrument cluster (status display).
Active Park Assist normally only displays parking spaces on the passenger side. Parking spaces on the driver's side are displayed when you activate the driver's side turn signal. To park on the driver's side, you must keep the driver's side turn signal on. It must remain on until you have confirmed the use of Active Park Assist with the button
on the multifunction steering wheel.
A right or left arrow appears when Active Park Assist has detected a free parking space.

Example: parking space detected (vehicles equipped with automatic transmission)
- Parking space detected on the left
- Parking symbol
- Parking space detected on the right
For Active Park Assist to detect a parking space, the space must
- be parallel to the direction of travel
- be at least 1.5 m wide
- be at least 1.0 m longer than your vehicle
A free parking space detected as you drive past remains displayed until you have moved approximately 15 m away from it.
