Towing
TOWING: breakdown recovery
Before any towing, unlock the steering column: press the clutch pedal, engage first gear (selector in position N or R for automatic gearbox vehicles), insert the RENAULT card into the card reader, then press the engine start button for two seconds.
Return the selector to neutral (position N for vehicles with an automatic gearbox).
The steering column unlocks and the accessory functions are powered: you can use the vehicle lights (indicators, brake lights, etc.). At night the vehicle must be lit.
Once towing is complete, press the engine start button twice (risk of battery discharge).
Do not remove the RENAULT card from the reader while towing.
It is imperative to comply with the regulations in force concerning towing.
If you are the towing vehicle, do not exceed the towing capacity of your vehicle (refer to the "Masses" section in chapter 6).
Towing a vehicle with an automatic gearbox
With the engine off, the gearbox is no longer lubricated, so it is preferable to transport the vehicle on a flatbed truck or tow it with the front wheels raised.
In exceptional cases, you may tow it with all four wheels on the ground, in forward gear only, with the selector in neutral N and over a maximum distance of 50 km.

If the selector lever is locked in P while you press the brake pedal, the lever can be released manually. To do so, unclip the base of the lever, then insert a rigid tool (rod) into slot 1 and press button 2 at the same time to unlock the lever.
Consult a brand representative as soon as possible.
Only use the front towing eyes 3 and rear towing eyes 6

(never the transmission tubes or any other part of the vehicle). These towing points may only be used for towing. Under no circumstances may they be used to lift the vehicle, either directly or indirectly.
With the engine off, the power steering and brake assistance are no longer operational.
Access to the towing points

Unclip cover 5 or 7 by inserting a flat tool (or the key integrated in the RENAULT card) under the cover.
Screw in towing ring 4 as far as it will go: first by hand until it stops, then tighten fully using the wheel brace or, depending on the vehicle, the lever.
Only use towing ring 4 and the wheel brace or lever stored with the tools (refer to the "Tools" section in chapter 5).
- Use a rigid towing bar. If a rope or cable is used (where legislation permits), the towed vehicle must be capable of braking.
- Do not tow a vehicle whose ability to roll is impaired.
- Avoid jerky acceleration and braking, which could damage the vehicle.
- In all cases, it is advisable not to exceed 50 km/h.
- Do not push the vehicle if the steering column is locked.
Never leave tools loose in the vehicle: they could be thrown forward during braking.
