II - AUTOMATIC OPERATION

Vehicles may be fitted with a wiper stalk with an intermittent timing adjustment ring or an automatic intermittent system. In both cases, the vehicles have:

  • a sensor sensitivity ring on the wiper stalk,
  • a rain and light sensor.

To activate the system, set the wiper stalk to the "intermittent" position. If the ignition is switched off, return the stalk to "off" then to "intermittent".

III - OPERATING PARTICULARITIES

  • If excessive force is applied to the wiper arms (e.g. at high speed), the protection and switching unit automatically switches the wipers to the lower speed.
  • If the wiper mechanism becomes blocked (e.g. frozen windscreen), the protection and switching unit automatically cuts the power to the motor.
  • If the front wipers are activated (by the stalk or the rain sensor), selecting reverse activates the rear wiper.
  • Any action on the wiper control takes priority and cancels the strategies of the passenger compartment central unit and the protection and switching unit.
  • The timing of the rear wiper is linked to vehicle speed.
  • If the passenger compartment central unit receives no signal from the steering wheel control, the front wipers are automatically controlled at low speed (see Control - Signalling chapter).
  • The passenger compartment central unit has specific configurations for the wiping - washing function (see Passenger Compartment Interconnection Box chapter).
