Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the temperature control actuator connector.
  3. Check that the temperature control actuator operates to the cold position when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and ground terminal 7. Check that the temperature control actuator moves to the warm position when the polarity is reversed. [DATC-LV]

  4. Connect the temperature control actuator connector.
  5. Turn the ignition on.
  6. Check the voltage between terminals 5 and 6. Specification [DATC-LV]

Max. Cool 1,2 Low voltage: 0.1 V or less
High voltage: 4.9 V or more

It will report the current actuator position to the controls.
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, replace the temperature control actuator with a known good one and check for proper operation.
  8. Replace the temperature control actuator if it is determined to be faulty.

Diagnosis Using GDS

  1. The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system can quickly diagnose faulty parts using the Global Diagnostic System (GDS).
The Diagnostic System (GDS) provides the following information. (1) Self-diagnosis: Check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and display. (2) Current data: Check the input/output status of the system. (3) Actuation test: Check the operating status of the system. (4) Additional functions: Other controls such as system option and zero point adjustment.
  2. Select "Vehicle Model" and the system to be checked to inspect the vehicle with the tester.
  3. Select the "CURRENT DATA" menu to check the current input/output status. The input/output data for the sensors related to the temperature control actuator can be checked.
  4. To perform a forced operation of the temperature control actuator input factors, select "ACTUATION TEST".

Replacement

[Driver Side]
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the emergency pad lower panel. (Refer to Body - "Emergency Pad Lower Panel")
  3. Remove the driver side air vent duct (A) after loosening the screw.
  4. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the driver side temperature control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  5. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  6. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  7. Remove the glove box housing. (Refer to Body - "Glove Box Housing")
  8. Remove the passenger side air vent duct (A) after loosening the screw.
  9. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the passenger side temperature control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  10. Install in the reverse order of removal.
