Inspection

  • In general, the transmission fluid does not require maintenance or replacement. However, it must be inspected and topped up every 4 years or 40,000 miles.
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  2. Remove the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  3. Remove the fill plug (A) and check the fluid condition and level.
    • The fluid level should be at the level of the filler hole. If not, add oil until it overflows.
  4. Install the fill plug bolt (A) with a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 58.9 ~ 78 N·m

  5. Install the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")

Replacement

In general, the fluid in the dual clutch transmission (DCT) does not need to be changed under normal driving conditions. However, under severe driving conditions, it must be changed every 80,000 miles. Severe driving conditions include:
  • Frequent driving on rough roads (bumpy roads, sand or gravel roads, snow-covered roads and unpaved roads)
  • Frequent driving on mountain trails and slopes
  • If the vehicle is used as a police car, taxi, for commercial purposes or for towing.
  • Frequent driving at high speeds (over 170 km/h)
  • If 50% or more of the total mileage is driven at temperatures above 32 °C and in heavy traffic
  1. Remove the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
  2. Remove the drain plug (A) and drain all the fluid. Then install the drain plug with a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 58.9 ~ 78 N·m

  3. Add new fluid through the fill hole (A) until it is just below the level of the fill plug hole. Standard fluid: API Service GL-4, SAE 70W. Recommended fluid (SHELL: SPIRAX S6 GHME 70W DCTF, SK: HK DCTF 70W, GS CALTEX: GS DCTF HD 70W). Fluid capacity: 1.9 L (0.50 US gal, 2.01 US qt, 1.67 Imp qt)
  4. Install the fill plug bolt (A) with a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 58.9 ~ 78 N·m

  5. Install the under cover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")
