■ Automatic power off function If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (with the engine off) for more than one hour, the engine switch will turn off automatically. However, this function cannot completely prevent the battery from discharging. Do not leave the vehicle with the engine switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods when the engine is not running.

■ If the engine does not start
- The engine immobilizer system may not have been deactivated. Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.
- The steering lock may not have been released.
■ Steering lock After turning the engine switch off and opening and closing the doors, the steering wheel will lock when the steering lock function is activated. When the engine switch is operated again, the steering lock function is automatically released.
■ When the steering lock cannot be released The smart entry & start system indicator (green) flashes rapidly.
Press the engine switch while turning the steering wheel to the right and left.

■ Preventing the steering lock motor from overheating To prevent overheating, operation of the steering lock motor may be suspended if the engine is started and stopped repeatedly in a short period of time. In this case, avoid operating the engine. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume operating.
■ If the system does not operate properly
■ If the electronic key battery is depleted
■ Operating the engine switch
- When operating the engine switch, press it firmly once. If the switch is not pressed correctly, the engine may not start or the engine switch mode may not change. It is not necessary to press and hold the switch.
- If you try to restart the engine immediately after turning the engine switch off, the engine may not start in some cases. After turning the engine switch off, wait a few seconds before restarting it.
- The warning buzzer sounds when the following conditions occur:
- When the engine switch is pressed while the vehicle is moving. Except in an emergency, do not press the engine switch while the vehicle is moving.
- When the engine stops after an emergency stop operation. The buzzer sounds until the engine is restarted or until the vehicle is completely stopped and the engine switch is set to IGNITION ON mode.
■ If the smart entry & start system has been deactivated by a customized setting
WARNING
■ When starting the engine Before starting the engine, sit in the driver's seat. Never depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.
Otherwise, an accident may occur, resulting in serious or fatal injury.
■ Caution while driving If the engine stalls while the vehicle is moving, do not lock or open the doors until the vehicle has come to a complete and safe stop.
Activating the steering lock in this situation may cause an accident, resulting in serious injury or death.
■ Stopping the engine in an emergency If you need to stop the engine in an emergency while driving, press and hold the engine switch for more than 2 seconds, or press it quickly 3 or more times in succession. However, do not touch the engine switch while driving, except in an emergency. Stopping the engine during normal driving does not cause loss of steering or braking control, but these systems will no longer be power-assisted.
This makes it harder to steer and brake, so pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
NOTE
■ To prevent battery discharge
- Do not leave the engine switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods if the engine is not running.
- If the smart entry & start system indicator (green) is on, the engine switch is not off. When leaving the vehicle, always make sure the engine switch is off.
■ When starting the engine
- Do not run the engine at high speed when the engine is cold.
- If the engine is difficult to start or stalls frequently, have the vehicle inspected immediately.
■ Symptoms of an engine switch malfunction If the engine switch seems to operate differently from normal, for example if the switch feels slightly stuck, there may be a malfunction.
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional, immediately.
