Wheels
If a wheel is bent, cracked, or severely corroded, it must be replaced. Otherwise, the tire may separate from the wheel or the vehicle may lose steering control.
Wheel Selection
When replacing wheels, make sure the new wheels are equivalent to the removed wheels in terms of load capacity, diameter, rim width, and inset*.
Replacement wheels are available from any authorized Toyota dealer or repair shop, or another suitably qualified and equipped professional.
*: Commonly referred to as "offset".
Toyota does not recommend the use of the following:
- Wheels of a different size or type
- Used wheels
- Bent wheels that have been straightened
Precautions for aluminum wheels (if equipped)
- Use only Toyota wheel bolts and wrenches specifically designed for use with your aluminum wheels.
- When rotating, repairing, or replacing tires, check that the wheel bolts are still tight after driving 1,600 km.
- When using snow chains, take care not to damage the aluminum wheels.
- Use only genuine Toyota wheel balance weights or equivalent types, and use a plastic or rubber hammer when balancing the wheels.
WARNING
■ When replacing wheels
- Do not install wheels of a size other than those recommended in the Owner's Manual, as this may result in loss of steering control.
- Never use an inner tube in a leaking wheel that requires a tubeless tire. Otherwise, an accident resulting in serious injury or death may occur.
■ Do not use defective wheels Do not use cracked or deformed wheels.
If you do, the tire may lose air while driving, possibly causing an accident.
