WARNING
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may move suddenly, become hot, or be electrically energized. To avoid serious or fatal injury, observe the following precautions.
■ When working in the engine compartment
- Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the operating cooling fan and the engine drive belt.
- Take care not to touch the engine, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc., immediately after driving, as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be very hot.
- Do not leave easily flammable items, such as paper and rags, in the engine compartment.
- Do not smoke, create sparks or expose fuel or the battery to an open flame. Fuel and battery fumes are flammable.
- Use extreme caution when working on the battery. It contains toxic and corrosive sulfuric acid.
- Be careful, as brake fluid can cause injury to hands or eyes and damage painted surfaces. If fluid contacts your hands or eyes, rinse the affected area immediately with clean water.
■ When working near the electric cooling fans or the radiator grille
- Vehicles without smart entry and start system: Make sure the key in the ignition switch is in the OFF position. With the key in the ignition switch in the "ON" position, the electric cooling fan may start to run automatically when the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature is high.
- Vehicles with smart entry and start system: Make sure the key is not in the ignition switch and the engine switch is in the OFF mode. With the engine switch in IGNITION ON mode, the electric cooling fan may start to run automatically if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature is high.
■ Protective glasses Wear protective glasses to prevent flying or falling debris, vaporized liquid, etc., from entering your eyes.
NOTE
■ If the air filter is removed Driving with the air filter removed may cause excessive engine wear due to dirty air.
■ If the fluid level is low or high It is normal for the brake fluid level to drop slightly as the brake pads wear or when the fluid level in the reservoir is high.
If the reservoir requires frequent topping up, there may be a serious problem.
