Tyre inflation pressure
Maintain correct tire inflation pressure. Tire inflation pressure should be checked at least once a month. Toyota recommends checking the tire inflation pressure every two weeks.
■ Effects of incorrect tire inflation pressure Driving with incorrect tire inflation pressure may result in:
- Reduced fuel economy
- Reduced ride comfort and poor handling
- Reduced tire life due to wear
- Reduced safety
- Damage to the drivetrain. If a tire frequently requires inflation, have it checked by any authorized Toyota dealer or repair shop, or another suitably qualified and equipped professional.
■ Instructions for checking tire inflation pressure When checking tire inflation pressure, follow these instructions:
- Check the tire pressure only when the tires are cold.
If the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours or has been driven no more than 1.5 km, the cold tire pressure reading will be accurate.
- Always use a tire pressure gauge to read the tire pressure.
It is difficult to judge whether a tire is correctly inflated by its appearance alone.
- It is normal for tire inflation pressure to be higher after driving, due to the heat generated inside the tires. Do not reduce the inflation pressure after driving.
NOTICE
■ Correct inflation is essential to preserve tire performance Keep the tires properly inflated.
If the tires are not properly inflated, the following conditions may occur, which may cause accidents resulting in death or serious injury:
- Excessive wear
- Uneven wear
- Poor handling
- Possibility of tire blowout due to tire overheating
- Air leakage between tire and wheel
- Wheel rim deformation and/or tire damage
- Increased possibility of tire damage while driving (due to road hazards, expansion joints, sharp road edges, etc.)
NOTE
■ When checking and adjusting tire inflation pressure Always reinstall the valve caps.
If the valve does not have a cap, dust or moisture may enter the valve and cause an air leak, which may lead to a drop in tire inflation pressure.
