Towing a Trailer
Your vehicle is designed to carry passengers. Towing a trailer degrades vehicle handling and maneuverability, increases braking distance, and reduces fuel economy. Do not overload the vehicle or the trailer. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover damage or malfunctions caused by towing a trailer for the purpose of transporting large loads of cargo.
Requirements
Before towing a trailer, make sure that the gross vehicle weight with the trailer, the maximum axle load, and the tongue load do not exceed the limits (see subsection 1.7).
Observe the following rules:
– the gross weight of the loaded trailer must not exceed the maximum permitted;
– the cargo in the trailer must be distributed so that the tongue load is not less than 25 kgf, but does not exceed the limit;
– the rear axle load when the vehicle is connected to the trailer must not exceed the maximum permitted rear axle load by more than 15%;
– the maximum permitted rear axle load is indicated on the vehicle information label.

Installing the Towing Hitch
GENERAL INFORMATION
The manufacturer recommends using a towing hitch (bracket and ball mount) from Toyota.
The mounting locations of the towing hitch bracket and ball mount are shown in the tables; dimensions are given in mm.

* 1 for vehicles with 4x4 drive configuration.
* 2 for all other vehicles.
Tires
Check the tire pressure of the vehicle (see subsection 2.4).
The trailer tire pressure must match the value specified in the trailer manufacturer's instructions for the given gross trailer weight.
Lighting
Each time the trailer is connected, check that the brake lights and turn signals are working properly. Direct splicing of the wiring may damage the vehicle's electrical equipment and cause the lighting system to fail.
Towing During Break-In
The manufacturer does not recommend towing a trailer with a vehicle that has a new engine, transmission, drivetrain, or chassis components (gearbox, differential, wheel bearings, etc.) during the first 800 km of operation.
Maintenance
Due to the additional load when towing a trailer, the vehicle requires more frequent care and maintenance.
Check the tightness of the towing hitch bracket and ball mount mounting bolts every 1000 km of towing.
Safety Precautions
Observe the cargo load limits (see subsection 1.6.4).
Make sure that the cargo is securely fastened.
When visibility of traffic behind is limited, install additional rear-view mirrors. Both additional mirrors must be adjustable to provide sufficient rearward visibility.
