BRAKE PIPES AND HOSES

1. Inspect all brake pipes and hoses for damage, wear (abrasion), cracks, corrosion, leaks, kinks and twists.

2. Check that the pipes and hoses are securely held by their retainers.

3. Check that the brake lines are routed at a sufficient distance from sharp edges and corners, moving components and exhaust system parts.

FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS

Inspect the brake pad linings for excessive wear and contamination of the friction surface. If a brake pad must be replaced, always replace the complete set of brake pads.

If a squealing or screeching noise occurs during braking while driving, check that the brake pad wear indicator is not contacting the brake disc. If the wear indicator contacts the brake disc, the brake pads must be replaced.

Front brake pads on the right and left wheels must be replaced at the same time.

Never separate a brake pad set or mix pads from different sets. All brake pads must be replaced at the same time as a complete set.

Minimum allowable brake pad lining thickness: 2 mm

REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOES AND WHEEL CYLINDERS

1. Remove the brake drum and check the thickness of the brake shoe linings. Check the automatic adjuster by hand and make sure it operates smoothly and that its gears engage correctly with each other. To ensure smooth operation of the automatic adjuster, apply a very thin layer of specified grease to the adjuster friction surfaces, adjuster shaft and adjuster lever pivot.

2. Inspect the wheel cylinder boots for leaks. Visually check the boots for cuts, tears or heat cracking. (A small amount of brake fluid under the boot may remain from assembly and does not necessarily indicate a leak.) Minimum allowable brake shoe lining thickness: 0.8 mm
