Roof rack/grab handles

~3min read

Description

A roof rack allows you to transport additional luggage.

If you need to transport luggage or other loads on the roof, please observe the following:

  • We recommend using the crossbars included in the Audi original accessories range.
  • These crossbars form the base of a complete roof rack system. For transporting luggage, bicycles, sailboards, skis and boats, use the corresponding additional attachments for safety. All components of this system are available from Audi dealers.

Warning!

Damage to the vehicle caused by the use of other roof racks or by installation that does not follow the instructions is excluded from the warranty. Therefore, follow the installation instructions supplied with the roof rack system exactly.

Mounting points

The roof rack must only be attached at the points indicated.

When installing, position the crossbars between the marks indicated by the arrows on the roof rails, see fig. 114. The marks are visible on the inside face of the roof rails.

Warning!

On vehicles without roof rails, installing a roof rack (base carrier) is not permitted.

Permitted roof load

Cargo on the roof must be secured firmly. Transporting luggage on the roof changes the vehicle's road handling characteristics.

The permitted roof load is 75 kg. It includes the weight of the transported items and the weight of the roof rack system.

If you use a roof rack system designed for lower loads, the full permitted roof load cannot be used. In this case, the load must not exceed the weight limit stated in the installation instructions.

CAUTION!

Cargo on the roof rack must be secured firmly. Risk of accident!

Do not exceed the permitted roof load, the permitted axle loads or the permitted gross vehicle weight.

Risk of accident!

When transporting heavy or bulky objects on the roof, note that the road handling of your vehicle changes due to the shift in the center of gravity and the larger area exposed to wind.

Risk of accident! You must therefore adapt your driving style and speed accordingly.

Warning!

If the tailgate is open, make sure it does not strike objects placed on the roof.

Environment

A roof rack is often left fitted to the roof for convenience even when it is no longer in use. The greater air resistance this causes increases your vehicle's fuel consumption unnecessarily. For this reason, you should remove the roof rack after use.
