Correct seating position for front passenger

~2min read

The front passenger must maintain a minimum distance of 25 cm from the dashboard so that the airbag can provide optimal protection if it deploys.

For your own safety and to reduce the risk of injury in an accident, we recommend the front passenger make the following adjustments:

  • Move the front passenger seat as far back as possible.
  • Adjust the seat backrest so that it is upright and fits the shape of your back.
  • Adjust the head restraint so that its top edge is level with the top of the head.
  • Keep your feet on the floor in front of the seat.
  • Fasten the seat belt correctly.

In exceptional cases only, you may deactivate the passenger airbag.

CAUTION!

If you are riding in the front passenger seat and you adopt an incorrect seating position, you risk serious injury.

  • Adjust the front passenger seat so that the distance between your chest and the dashboard is at least 25 cm. If the distance is less than 25 cm, the airbag no longer provides optimal protection.
  • If your build does not allow you to maintain the minimum distance of 25 cm, contact a specialist workshop. They will advise you on whether special devices can be fitted.
  • While driving, keep your feet on the floor - do not place them on the dashboard, out of the window or on the seat surfaces! If you adopt an incorrect seating position, you are at greater risk of injury in the event of sudden braking or an accident. If you are not seated correctly, you risk very serious injury if the airbag deploys.
  • To reduce the risk of injury to the front passenger in the event of sudden braking or an accident, never ride with the seatback reclined significantly backward. Airbags and seat belts can only provide optimal protection if the seatback is upright and you have correctly adjusted your seat belt. The further the seatback is reclined, the higher the risk of injury due to incorrect belt fit and an incorrect seating position!
  • Adjust the head restraint correctly to obtain optimal protection.
