Removal, Inspection and Installation of the Idle Air Control Valve
The idle air control valve is located at the intake manifold and is connected by hoses to the front and rear sections of the throttle body.
* To check the valve operation, place your hand on the valve. With the engine running, the valve should vibrate due to the pulsed voltage supply.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the intake air hose from the throttle body by opening the clamp.
2. Disconnect the throttle body, refer to the Throttle Body Removal and Installation section.
* Do not disconnect the cable and the coolant hoses.
3. Unbolt the oil level indicator guide tube at the holder.

4. Remove the two bolts securing the idle air control valve to the intake manifold and lower the valve down.

5. Disconnect the idle air control valve electrical connector by squeezing the wire retainer. Remove the O-ring and the rubber clamp. Disconnect the hose.
Resistance Check
PROCEDURE
1. Connect an ohmmeter to the terminals of the control valve and check the resistance. Specified value: (Refer to the accompanying illustration).
• Terminals 1 and 3: 40 ± 5 Ohm;
• Terminals 2 and 1 or 2 and 3: 20 ± 5 Ohm.

Functional Check
PROCEDURE
1. Connect the connectors.
2. Fully open or close the valve knob by hand.

3. Turn the ignition on. The knob should partially close the valve passage, approximately halfway.
INSTALLATION
1. Secure the hose to the control valve with a clamp. Always replace the O-ring with a new one. To ease installation of the O-ring, lubricate the valve body with petroleum jelly.
2. Insert the control valve and secure it. Install the oil level indicator guide tube.
3. Connect the electrical connector to the valve, refer to the Throttle Body Removal and Installation section.
4. Install the intake hose and secure it with the clamp.
5. Read the diagnostic trouble code memory. After repairing the faults, clear the memory.
