The Ambient Air Package of the BMW 5 VII Gen turns the interior into a fragrant oasis of well-being. Two high-quality fragrances can be selected via iDrive, and their intensity can be adjusted. The fragrance is released at intervals to avoid a habituation effect. In addition, ionization provides clean air and enhances well-being. Fragrance cartridges can be replaced easily, and BMW recommends using only original components. A refined combination of technology and sensory experience, for an exclusive driving feeling on every journey.

Principle

With the Ambient Air Package, the interior air can be cleaned and subtly scented with high-quality fragrances.

Ionization cleans the air of suspended particles. Together with the selected fragrance, the ionization contributes to well-being and relaxation while driving.

General

Two fragrances can be selected in the vehicle. Additional fragrances are possible by replacing the fragrance cartridges.

The following factors can affect how the fragrance is perceived in the vehicle interior:

  • Settings of the automatic climate control.
  • Temperature and air humidity.
  • Time of day and season.
  • Physical condition of the occupants, for example fatigue.

BMW recommends using original BMW fragrance cartridges.

Original BMW fragrance cartridges are not designed to be refilled and must be replaced with new fragrance cartridges once used up.

Safety information

WARNING Refilled BMW fragrance cartridges can release harmful substances, cause malfunctions and damage the system. There is a risk of injury or property damage.

Do not refill fragrance cartridges. Replace them with new fragrance cartridges once they are used up.

Ionization

Principle

Ionization cleans airborne particles from the interior air.

Switching on/off

Via iDrive:

  4. "Room ionization"

The climate display shows that ionization is switched on.

Fragrance release

General

Fragrance is released at intervals to prevent the sense of smell from getting used to it.

Two fragrance cartridges in the vehicle allow you to switch between fragrances.

The fragrance cartridges are located in the glove box.

Prerequisites for operation

  • Fragrance cartridges are sufficiently filled.
  • Interior temperature between +5 ℃ and +40 ℃.

Select fragrance

You can choose between two fragrances.

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "Vehicle settings"
  3. "Climate comfort"
  4. "Fragrance"
  5. Select the desired setting.

The setting is saved for the currently used driver profile.

Display

General

When operated via the button, the Ambient Air package menu can be shown automatically on the Control Display.

Settings

The menu is shown on the Control Display.

Fragrance cartridge fill level

Graphics on the Control Display show the current fill level of the fragrance cartridges.

Via iDrive:

  4. "Fragrance" The fill level of the current fragrance is shown.
  5. Select the desired setting.

If an empty fragrance cartridge is displayed, it still contains a liquid that carries the fragrance. However, this is not enough for fragrance release.

When a fragrance cartridge needs to be changed, a Check Control message is shown.

Inserting fragrance cartridges

The fragrance cartridges are located in the glove box.

  1. Open the glove box.
  2. Press on the underside of the cartridge holder.

  3. Remove the cap of the fragrance cartridge. Grip the cap on the top and slide it off the fragrance cartridge.

  4. Attach the removed cap to the back of the fragrance cartridge.

  5. Position the fragrance cartridge so that the chip faces away from the cartridge holder.

  6. Insert the fragrance cartridge into the cartridge holder without applying pressure. The cartridge engages with a slight, noticeable click.

  7. Slide the cartridge holder up until it engages.
The cartridge holder slides downward. Make sure that no objects push against the cartridge holder from below, otherwise the function of the Ambient Air Package could be impaired.
  • Close the glove box.

    • Removing fragrance cartridges

    The fragrance cartridges are located in the glove box.

    1. Open the glove box.
    2. Press on the underside of the cartridge holder.

    3. Pull the desired fragrance cartridge out of the holder.

    1. Pull the desired fragrance cartridge out of the holder.

    Recycling

    Empty fragrance cartridges can be returned for recycling to a service partner of the manufacturer, another qualified service partner, or a specialist workshop.

    The Ambient Air package in the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 turns the interior into a comfort zone. It combines gentle fragrance release with air ionization, which reduces airborne particles and noticeably improves the interior climate. Especially on long journeys or in polluted city air, this creates a fresh, pleasant atmosphere in the vehicle.

    The option to switch between two fragrances and adjust the intensity individually offers exceptional flexibility. The interval fragrance release is particularly clever: it prevents the sense of smell from getting used to the fragrance and keeps the scent subtle. The fill levels of the cartridges can be conveniently checked on the display, so replacements are always available.

    This system shows that comfort is also noticeable in the details. With the Ambient Air package, the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 creates an atmosphere that further enhances the time spent in the vehicle and emotionally enriches the driving experience.
