With auxiliary ventilation and auxiliary heating in the BMW 5 G30, the interior can be conditioned before the journey begins, whether cooling or heating is required. The system uses residual heat or fuel and can be activated via iDrive, a button or the BMW Display Key. Especially on cold winter mornings or hot summer days, it provides a comfortable climate when you get in. The safety and usage notes emphasize the importance of the surroundings, fuel level and battery. Departure times can be set in advance, including individual weekdays and times. This way, every journey starts comfortably and in good time.

Principle

The system consists of auxiliary ventilation and auxiliary heating. It allows the interior to be conditioned before the start of the journey.

Depending on the set temperature and ambient temperature, the interior is cooled or heated. The system uses the engine's residual heat or the vehicle's fuel to generate heat, as applicable.

General

The system can be switched on and off immediately or at a preselected departure time.

The switch-on time is determined based on the outside temperature. The system switches on in good time before the preselected departure time.

At outside temperatures below 0 ℃, water vapor forms and exits under the vehicle.

Safety notes

DANGER If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventilation is inadequate, harmful exhaust gases can enter the vehicle.

The exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is colorless and odorless but toxic. In enclosed spaces, exhaust gases can also accumulate outside the vehicle. There is a risk of death. Keep the exhaust pipe clear and ensure adequate ventilation.

Do not switch on the auxiliary heating in enclosed spaces. WARNING High temperatures can occur under the body while the auxiliary heating is operating, for example from the exhaust system. If flammable materials, such as leaves or grass, come into contact with hot parts of the exhaust system, these materials can ignite.

There is a risk of fire. Make sure that no flammable materials can come into contact with vehicle parts while the auxiliary heating is operating.

Prerequisites for operation

  • The vehicle is in standby mode or in accessory mode, and not in ready-to-drive mode.
  • The battery is sufficiently charged.

The vehicle battery discharges while the auxiliary ventilation/heating is switched on. For this reason, the maximum operating time is limited to protect the vehicle battery.

After starting the engine or after a short drive, the system is available again.

  • Auxiliary heating: fuel level is sufficient.
  • With a low fuel level and the vehicle parked on a slope, the auxiliary heating function may be limited.
  • Make sure the vehicle date and time are set correctly.
  • Open the ventilation outlets so that the air can flow out.
  • Switching on/off directly

    General

The system can be switched on or off directly in several ways.

The system switches off automatically after a certain time. It continues to run for some time after being switched off.

    Using the button

When the vehicle is in standby mode, the system can be switched on or off using the buttons on the automatic climate control.

    Press any button, except for:

    • Rear window defroster.
    • Left side of button: air volume.
    • Seat heating.
    • Seat ventilation.
    • SYNC program.

The auxiliary ventilation and auxiliary heating in the BMW 5 G30/G31 ensure that the vehicle is already at a comfortable temperature before you get in, a real gain in quality of life, especially on cold winter mornings or hot summer days. The system uses intelligent control to air-condition the interior efficiently and as needed.

A special highlight is the ability to program departure times, so that the BMW is at a comfortable temperature and ready to drive at the desired time. Whether via iDrive, the BMW Display Key or directly by button, operation is flexible and simple. Safety features such as the prevention of exhaust gas accumulation and the warning system for a low fuel level round off this well-thought-out concept.

This function is more than comfort. It contributes to the safety and well-being of the occupants and clearly sets the BMW 5 G30/G31 apart from others, particularly in everyday use.

    FAQ

Question 1: How long before the departure time does the auxiliary heating start automatically?

Answer: The start time is calculated based on the outside temperature so that the interior reaches the desired temperature on time.

Question 2: Can the auxiliary heating be activated when the fuel level is low?

Answer: Only to a limited extent. If the fuel level is too low, the function is automatically blocked to prevent starting problems.
