Steering wheel

The steering wheel settings in the BMW 5 G30 can be adjusted manually or electrically. This chapter explains how to adjust position, height and reach individually, including the memory function and exit assist. The steering wheel heating is also described, a practical function for comfort in cold temperatures.

Safety information

WARNING Adjusting the steering wheel while driving can cause unexpected steering wheel movements. The vehicle may get out of control. There is a risk of accident. Adjust the steering wheel only when the vehicle is stationary.

Manual transmission: Electric steering wheel lock

WARNING When the steering wheel lock is activated, the vehicle cannot be steered. There is a risk of accident. Switch on ready-to-drive mode before moving the vehicle. The steering wheel locks automatically when the driver's door is opened.

To unlock, switch on ready-to-drive mode.

   Fold the lever down.

   Adjust the steering wheel for reach and height to suit your seating position.

Electric steering wheel adjustment

General

The steering wheel setting is saved for the driver profile currently in use. When ready-to-drive mode is switched on, the saved position is recalled automatically if this function is activated.

The current steering wheel position can be saved using the memory function, see page 92.

Settings

Adjust the steering wheel for reach and height by pressing the switch.

Entry/exit assist

The steering wheel temporarily moves to its top position to make getting in and out easier.

Switching on/off

Press the button.

A Check Control message is displayed.

If the journey is resumed within approx. 15 minutes of an intermediate stop, the steering wheel heating switches on automatically.
