Front head restraints

~2min read

The front head restraints in the BMW 5 Series VII Gen play a key role in protecting against neck injuries. This chapter shows how to correctly adjust manual and electric head restraints for height, distance and side wings. The integrated memory function also increases driver comfort.

General

The current head restraint position can be stored with memory function 92.

Correctly adjusted head restraint

General

A correctly adjusted head restraint reduces the risk of cervical spine injuries in an accident.

Height

Adjust the head restraint so that its center is approximately at eye level.

Distance

Adjust the distance so that the head restraint rests as close as possible to the back of the head.

Safety notes

WARNING Head restraints that are removed or not correctly adjusted cannot provide protection and may cause injuries to the head and neck area. There is a risk of injury. Before driving with occupied seats, install the head restraints. Make sure that the center of the head restraint supports the back of the head at eye level. WARNING Body parts can be trapped when moving the head restraint. There is a risk of injury. When moving the head restraint, make sure the movement area is clear. WARNING Objects on the head restraint reduce its protective effect in the head and neck area.

There is a risk of injury.

  • Do not use seat covers or head restraint covers.
  • Do not hang any objects, e.g. coat hangers, directly on the head restraint.
  • Only use accessories that are approved as safe for attachment to the head restraint.
  • Do not use accessories, e.g. cushions, while driving.

Active head restraint

In the event of a rear-end collision of sufficient severity, the active head restraint automatically reduces the distance to the head.

After an accident or if damaged, have the active head restraint checked and replaced if necessary.

Removing

The front head restraints cannot be removed.

The front head restraints in the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 are designed to optimally protect the neck while increasing comfort. Their precise adjustment options allow a perfect fit to the individual seating position.

The active head restraints in particular provide additional protection in rear-end collisions by automatically reducing the distance to the head. This significantly reduces the risk of injury.

This underlines the BMW 5 Series G30/G31's high standards for safety and ergonomics.
