Automatic air conditioning

~10min read

The automatic air conditioning in the Citroën C6 provides maximum comfort in every season. The system automatically and individually controls temperature, air distribution and air volume for driver and front passenger. A range of sensors measures sunlight, air quality and interior temperature to maintain a pleasant climate. The selected comfort temperature is maintained even during strong temperature fluctuations. In manual mode, airflow, distribution and recirculation can be set separately. There are also functions for defrosting windows, purifying the air and zone control for gentle airflow. The air conditioning helps against heat in summer and prevents the windows from fogging up in winter. Regular operation and maintenance of the system, including filter replacement, are important for lasting performance and a pleasant driving experience.

Air conditioning

This system automatically controls the temperature, air volume and air distribution in the interior according to the comfort setting you have selected.

If automatic mode remains selected (by pressing the “AUTO” control) and all air vents are open, optimum comfort is maintained; moisture and condensation are removed regardless of outside weather conditions.

The interior temperature cannot be lower than the outside temperature when the air conditioning is not running.

For best performance, only switch on the air conditioning with the windows closed. If the temperature is very high after a long period parked in direct sunlight, ventilate the interior briefly with the windows open, then close the windows.

To keep the air conditioning compressor sealed properly, run the air conditioning at least once a month.

Running air conditioning uses engine power, which results in higher fuel consumption.

Sensors

The interior climate is regulated automatically by various sensors, so you only need to set the displayed temperature; no other setpoints need to be adjusted.

Make sure sensor A is not covered.

Air intake

Keep the external air intake grille at the bottom edge of the windscreen clear of leaves and snow.

When washing the vehicle with a high-pressure cleaner, do not aim the jet directly at the air intake.

Air flow

Good air distribution in the front and rear of the interior provides maximum comfort.

The front air vents have adjusting wheels to control the airflow volume, and grilles to direct the airflow.

The floor outlets under the front seats and under the rear control panel provide better heating for the rear seats.

Make sure the air outlets in the boot are not covered.

Pollen/dust filter

The system is fitted with a filter that traps pollen and dust.

Replace this filter according to the maintenance schedule. See “Service Booklet”.

The system regulates temperature and air distribution separately for the driver and passenger sides. The air volume is the same for both sides.

The symbols and messages for the automatic air conditioning controls are shown on the multifunction display.

Automatische Klimaanlage

1. AUTOMATIC FUNCTION

Automatische Klimaanlage

This is the normal operating mode of the system.

Depending on the selected temperature, pressing this control, confirmed by the indicator light coming on, enables automatic and simultaneous control of the following functions:

  • Air volume.
  • Interior temperature.
  • Air distribution.
  • Air intake / interior air recirculation.

It is recommended to leave all ventilation outlets open. Pressing any control once, except temperature controls 2a and 2b, switches to manual mode. The indicator light goes out and the automatic air intake function is deactivated.

2. TEMPERATURE SETTING

To set the temperature, press control 2a to change the temperature on the driver's side, and press control 2b to change the temperature on the passenger side.

A setting of about 21 provides optimum comfort. However, a setting between 18 and 24 is common, depending on individual needs.

Controlling the air conditioning with the "AUTO" system ensures good interior ventilation.

Note: The interior temperature may differ from the displayed set value.

Notes:

  • When starting from cold, the air volume gradually reaches the optimum level to avoid too strong a flow of cold air.
  • If, when entering the vehicle after a longer or shorter stop, the interior temperature differs considerably from the comfort temperature, changing the displayed temperature is not useful for quickly reaching the desired comfort temperature.
The system automatically uses maximum output to equalise the temperature difference as quickly as possible.

Notes:

  • Air conditioning condensation drains through a dedicated opening; for this reason, a puddle may form under the parked vehicle.
  • The air conditioning is useful regardless of the season, even at low temperatures, as it removes moisture from the air and so prevents the windows from fogging up.
  • It is recommended to have the air conditioning checked regularly. See "Service Booklet".
  • When towing a heavy trailer and at very high outside temperatures, the air conditioning may be switched off temporarily if engine cooling requires it.

Manual mode

It is possible to set one or more functions manually while the other functions remain in automatic mode.

To return to "AUTO" mode, press control 1.

Switching off the air conditioning

Turn the setting wheel 4 to the left until the air volume is completely off. The "OFF" symbol appears on the display.

The display and indicator lights go out, showing that all functions are deactivated except the rear window heating.

Thermal comfort (temperature, humidity, odour, fogging) is no longer controlled.

To reactivate the air conditioning, press control 1.

Avoid driving for long periods with the air conditioning switched off.

3. AIR DISTRIBUTION SETTING

Automatische Klimaanlage

Pressing controls 3a and 3b repeatedly or continuously directs the airflow to the driver's or passenger's side.

The symbol (arrows) corresponding to the selected direction appears on the multifunction display:

  • Windscreen and side windows.
  • Side and centre ventilation outlets and soft-airflow air conditioning (when open).
  • Passenger footwell outlets.
  • "AUTO" automatic distribution.

4. AIR VOLUME SETTINGAutomatische Klimaanlage

Turn the setting wheel to increase or decrease the air volume.

The air volume symbol (fan) appears on the multifunction display, and the individual blades are shown filled in as the air volume increases.

To avoid fogging and a deterioration in interior air quality, always make sure a sufficient air volume is set.

Multi-zone automatic climate control with soft airflow

The soft-airflow system at the centre front ensures optimum air distribution to the front seats.

This system prevents disturbing air flows and ensures an optimum interior temperature.

Automatische Klimaanlage

Setting the air volume of the soft-airflow automatic climate control

The driver and front passenger can set the air volume of the soft-airflow automatic climate control separately.

To set the air volume, turn the setting wheel until the desired air volume is reached.

To close the soft-airflow automatic climate control, turn the setting wheel fully down.

For better ventilation in the centre and at the sides at very high temperatures, it is recommended to close the soft-airflow automatic climate control.

5. DEFROST / DEMIST - FRONT

Automatische Klimaanlage

Press control 5 to quickly clear the windows of condensation. The indicator light comes on.

This system controls the air conditioning, the air volume and the air intake. It distributes the airflow to the windscreen and the front side windows.

Pressing control 1 returns the system to "AUTO" mode.

6. DEFROST / DEMIST - REAR

Automatische Klimaanlage

With the engine running, press control 6 to quickly demist or defrost the rear window and exterior mirrors. The indicator light comes on.

This mode switches off automatically depending on the outside temperature. It can be stopped by pressing control 6 again or by switching off the engine.

In the latter case, defrosting continues the next time the engine is started.

Note: The rear window heating works independently of the automatic air conditioning system.

7. AIR RECIRCULATION - OUTSIDE AIR INTAKE

Automatische Klimaanlage

Press button 7 repeatedly to select the outside air intake mode. The indicator light for the selected mode comes on.

  • Outside air intake in AUTO air quality mode (activated by default with automatic climate control).

AUTO mode features an air quality sensor.

The sensor analyses the air and closes the outside air intake as soon as it detects pollutants. In this case, it automatically switches to air recirculation.

Note: This function cannot detect or keep out unpleasant odours from the interior. It is not active when the outside temperature is below +5 °C, to avoid the risk of fogging inside the vehicle.

  • Closing the air intake

Press button 7 to close the outside air intake.

This position allows the driver to prevent unpleasant odours or smoke from outside from entering the vehicle at any time, while keeping the other settings.

Leave this position as soon as possible to allow the interior air to be renewed and, if necessary, to dry fogged windows.

  • Outside air intake

Press button 7 once to open the outside air intake.

To switch the air conditioning on/off

Automatische Klimaanlage

Press the "CLIM" button to select the air conditioning mode. Then press the "OK" button or the rotary dial to display the "Air conditioning menu" on the multifunction display.
