11. THERMOSTAT

Remove the thermostat from the engine before testing.

PROCEDURE.

1. Immerse the thermostat and thermometer in a container with coolant of the specified mixture (see figure Thermostat Check).

2. Place the container on the hot plate and heat the coolant. Monitor the coolant temperature with the thermometer.

3. The thermostat valve must be fully open at a coolant temperature of 102°C ±3°C. If the valve is not fully open, replace the thermostat.

4. Check that the spring is compressed when the thermostat valve is fully closed. Otherwise, replace the thermostat.
