Thermostat removal

A. CYLINDER HEAD.

Remove or disconnect.

Warning.

To avoid scalding from steam and coolant spray, do not open the expansion tank cap while the engine is still hot.

PROCEDURE.

1. Drain the coolant by removing the lower hose.

2. Timing belt front cover..

3. Camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.

4. Timing belt.

5. Unscrew the bolts and remove the timing belt rear cover.

6. Loosen the clamp and remove hose 12 from thermostat housing 13.

7. Unscrew the 2 bolts and remove thermostat housing 13 with the O-ring, see figure Thermostat housing removal.

8. Remove thermostat B from the cylinder head seat, see figure Thermostat removal. Inspect.

PROCEDURE.

1. Check the valve seat for foreign particles that could prevent the valve from closing fully.

2. Check the thermostat for proper operation.

Clean.

PROCEDURE.

Clean the thermostat housing and the mating surface of the cylinder head using

solvent..

Installation

PROCEDURE.

1. Install thermostat B into the cylinder head recess..

2. Install thermostat housing 13 with a new O-ring. Screw in bolts A, Fig. Thermostat removal. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to a torque of 10.

N·m..

3. Install hose 12 to thermostat housing 13, tighten the clamp..

4. Install the timing belt rear cover. Screw in the bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts.

5. Install the gears onto the camshafts and crankshaft. Tighten the mounting bolt.

camshaft gear bolt to a torque of 45 N·m, and the crankshaft gear bolt

– 55 N·m..

6. Timing belt..

Warning.

After installing the belt, check the correct installation of the angular

position of the camshafts and crankshaft..

7. Timing belt cover..

8. Fill the cooling system with coolant..

9. Clutch cover plate.

10. Lower clutch housing mounting bolts to the cylinder block.
