Getting to know the vehicle

Introduction

~2min read

The "Natural Power" version features two fuel systems: one for petrol and one for Natural Gas (methane).

Methane cylinders

The vehicle is fitted with two cylinders (total capacity approx. 72 litres) fig. 43 - fig. 44 located under the vehicle floor and protected by two specific shields.

The methane, stored in the high-pressure cylinders, flows through a dedicated pipe to the pressure reducer/regulator which supplies the two low-pressure methane injectors (approx. 9 bar).

Cylinder certification

The methane cylinders are certified in accordance with ECE Regulation No. 110.

The cylinders must be inspected, according to the procedure of ECE Regulation No. 110, every 4 years from the vehicle's first registration date, or according to specific provisions of individual countries.

The plates supplied by the dealer with the on-board documentation show the scheduled date for the first test/inspection of the cylinders. Methane refuelling personnel are not authorised to fill cylinders whose test date has expired.

WARNING If the vehicle is registered in countries other than Italy, the certification and identification data and the inspection/control procedures for the methane cylinders comply with the national legislation of that country. In any case, please note that the life of the cylinders is 20 years from the production date, as per ECE Regulation No. 110.

Petrol / methane fuel type selection

Normal engine operation is on methane, except for starting, which takes place on petrol.

Button A fig. 45 (petrol/methane switchover) allows you to select petrol or methane operation.

To ensure safe switching, the actual changeover to the selected fuel depends on the vehicle's operating conditions, so it may not be immediate.

The actual changeover is confirmed by the green indicator light coming on or going offlocated on the instrument cluster.

When starting at an external temperature below –10 °C approx., the switchover times from petrol to methane increase to allow sufficient warming of the pressure reducer/regulator.

If methane runs out, the system switches over to petrol automatically. In this case the four bars of the digital indicator go off and the green lighton the instrument panel comes on.
