For clutch B operation,

Clutch B


Condition Possible Sources Action
Clutch B not applied SSB mechanically stuck off INSTALL a new solenoid.
REFER TO: Shift Solenoids (SS) (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B control valve stuck in OFF position DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the clutch B control valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B latch valve stuck in OFF position DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the clutch B latch valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B hydraulic circuit restricted/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris, restrictions and leaks. CLEAN as necessary.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
PERFORM the clutch B air pressure test.
REFER TO: Special Testing Procedures (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Diagnosis and Testing).
If a leak is detected, INSPECT the front support assembly and clutch B piston seals for leakage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Front Support Assembly, Sun Gear No. 1 DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the front support assembly hydraulic passages for debris, restrictions and leaks. INSPECT the front support assembly and sun gear No. 1 for wear and damage. CLEAN or INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Clutch B piston seal DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the clutch B piston seals for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Clutch B Friction Plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the clutch B friction and steel plates for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Clutch B always applied SSB mechanically stuck INSTALL a new solenoid.

Clutch B control valve stuck in ON position DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the clutch B control valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.

Clutch B latch valve stuck in ON position DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the clutch B latch valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Leak in clutch B hydraulic circuit DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for cracks, distortion and damage. If damage is found, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Front Support Assembly, Sun Gear No. 1 INSPECT and CHECK components for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Clutch B Separator Springs INSPECT clutch B separator springs for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
REFER TO: Transmission (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, Overhaul).
Clutch B Friction Plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the clutch B friction and steel plates for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

Clutch B delayed/soft/slipping. Incorrect shift strategy programmed in the PCM/TCM. PERFORM the shift strategy download and adaptive learning drive cycle.

REFER TO: Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle (307-01B Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80, General Procedures).
Low Line Pressure PERFORM the line pressure test. If line pressure is low, REFER TO the line pressure diagnostics chart.
REFER TO: Special Testing Procedures (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Diagnosis and Testing).
SSB mechanically stuck on
  • If vehicle mileage is less than 5000 miles (8000 km), PERFORM the PCM - Primary Transmission Control with Acceleration procedure 3 times using the diagnostic scan tool.
  • For all other vehicles, INSTALL a new solenoid.
    REFER TO: Shift Solenoids (SS) (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B control valve sticking
  • If vehicle mileage is less than 5000 miles (8000 km), PERFORM the PCM - Primary Transmission Control with Acceleration procedure 3 times using the diagnostic scan tool.
  • For all other vehicles, DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT clutch B control valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
    REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B lock valve sticking
  • If vehicle mileage is less than 5000 miles (8000 km), PERFORM the PCM - Primary Transmission Control with Acceleration procedure 3 times using the diagnostic scan tool.
  • For all other vehicles, DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT clutch B lock valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
    REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
Clutch B hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris, restrictions and leaks. CLEAN as necessary.
REFER TO: Main Control Valve Body (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Removal and Installation).
PERFORM the clutch B air pressure test.
REFER TO: Special Testing Procedures (307-01A Automatic Transmission - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R60, Diagnosis and Testing).

Clutch B piston seal DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the clutch B piston seals for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

Clutch B Friction Plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the clutch B friction and steel plates for wear and damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.

Clutch B rigid Incorrect shift strategy programmed in the PCM/TCM. PERFORM the shift strategy download and adaptive learning drive cycle.

High line pressure PERFORM the line pressure test. If line pressure is high, REFER TO the line pressure diagnostics chart.

  • If vehicle mileage is less than 5000 miles (8000 km), PERFORM the PCM - Primary Transmission Control with Acceleration procedure 3 times using the diagnostic scan tool.
  • For all other vehicles, INSTALL a new solenoid.

Clutch B control valve sticking

Clutch B lock valve sticking
  • If vehicle mileage is less than 5000 miles (8000 km), PERFORM the PCM - Primary Transmission Control with Acceleration procedure 3 times using the diagnostic scan tool.
  • For all other vehicles, DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT clutch B lock valve. If the bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.

Clutch B hydraulic circuit restricted/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris, restrictions and leaks. CLEAN as necessary.

Clutch B Separator Springs INSPECT clutch B separator springs for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
