Description and Operation - D Clutch

Overview

Planetary carrier No. 3 is located in the CDF clutch and planetary carrier assembly. Planetary carrier No. 3 is connected to the D clutch. When the D clutch is applied, planetary carrier No. 3 can be connected to ring gear No. 2.

D Clutch Hydraulic Apply 5-6 Shift

Line pressure is supplied to the D clutch control valve. LPC pressure is supplied to the boost control valve. LPC pressure positions the boost control valve at the right end of the valve bore. When SSD is energized, it moves the D clutch regulator valve, allowing regulated line pressure to flow to the D mechanical clutch.

D Clutch Hydraulic Apply 2-3, 4-5 and 9-10 Shifts

Line pressure is supplied to the D clutch control valve. LPC pressure is supplied to the boost control valve. LPC pressure is low, and the boost control valve remains in its default position at the left end of the valve bore. When SSD is energized, it moves the D clutch regulator valve, allowing regulated line pressure to flow to the D mechanical clutch.
