Materials

Removal

   Position the vehicle in NEUTRAL on the lift.
   Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

   Remove the retainers and the lower engine splash shield.

   Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
   Use common service equipment: oil drain equipment.
   Use general service equipment: strap wrench.
   Material: Engine Oil — SAE 5W-20 — synthetic engine oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)
   Torque: 128 lb-in (14.5 N·m)

   • Using hose clamp pliers, pinch off the oil cooler coolant hoses.
     Use common equipment: locking pliers

   • Disconnect the coolant hoses.

   NOTICE: If metal or aluminum is present in the oil cooler, mechanical damage exists. Failure to correct these concerns may result in engine failure.

   • Remove the bracket and engine oil cooler.
     Torque: 41 lb-ft (55 N·m)

   • For diagnosis of mechanical concerns.
     Refer to: Engine (303-00 Engine System - General Information, Diagnosis and Testing).
     Use common equipment: oil drain equipment

   Inspect the engine oil cooler seal.

   

Installation

1. 1
   To install, reverse the removal procedure.

   Check and adjust the engine oil level.
   Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-20 - Synthetic Engine Oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)
3. 3
   Check and adjust the engine coolant level.
   Material: Concentrated Motorcraft® Orange Antifreeze/Engine Coolant / VC-3-B (WSS-M97B44-D)
   Material: Pre-diluted Motorcraft® Orange Antifreeze/Engine Coolant / VC-3DIL-B (WSS-M97B44-D2)
