Materials

Removal

1. 1
   Position the vehicle in NEUTRAL on the lift.
   Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

   Remove the oil level indicator.

   Remove the retainers and the lower engine splash shield.

   

4. 4
   Remove the bolts, release the tab and move the coolant hoses aside.

   

5. 5
   Remove the drain plug, drain the engine oil, and install the drain plug.
   Use common shop equipment: oil drain equipment
   Torque: 21 lb-ft (28 N·m)

   

6. 6
   Remove and discard the engine oil filter.
   Use common equipment: oil drain equipment.
   Use general equipment: strap wrench.

   

7. 7
   Remove the oil pan bolts.

   

8. 8
   Using suitable supports, remove the oil pan.

   

Installation

1. 1
   Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface.
   Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation (303-00 Engine System — General Information, General Procedures).

   Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface.
   Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation (303-00 Engine System — General Information, General Procedures).

   Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface.
   Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation (303-00 Engine System — General Information, General Procedures).

   Install the following components:

   • Install two M8x20 studs.

   Apply a 3.5 mm (0.137 in) bead of silicone sealant.
   Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)

   Install the oil pan and remove the alignment studs.

   

7. 7
   Install the oil pan bolts, tightening them by hand.

   

8. 8
   Tighten the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown.
   Torque:
   1 - 4: 35 lb-ft (47 N·m)
   5 - 17: 168 lb-in (19 N·m)

   

9. 9
   Lubricate and install a new engine oil filter.
   Material: Engine Oil — SAE 5W-20 — synthetic engine oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)
   Torque: 128 lb-in (14.5 N·m)

   

10. 10
    Position the coolant hose assembly and install the bolts.
    Torque: 17 lb-ft (23 N·m)

    

11. 11
    Install the engine shield and clips.

    

12. 12
    Fill the engine with engine oil.
    Material: Engine Oil — SAE 5W-20 — synthetic engine oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)
13. 13
    Install the oil level indicator.
