Cleaning the engine
Note: When washing the engine compartment, do not remove the transparent label that protects the VIN. Engine oil, brake fluid, coolant additive, batteries and tyres must be taken to facilities specially equipped for industrial waste disposal. Do not dispose of these substances in the public sewer system or with household waste. Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility. Everyone must do their part.
Frequent engine washing is not recommended. However, when washing the engine, take care not to use water jets that are too strong on the engine. Never wash an engine that is running or hot with cold water, as thermal shock on hot surfaces can damage the engine. The air conditioning condenser and the radiator have aluminium fins that may be deformed if washed with high-pressure water jets. To avoid damage, use only low-pressure water jets.
Note: Do not pour water, soap or any other product onto the alternator and starter motor. They could be damaged by contact with liquids. When washing:
- Take care when using a pressure washer to clean the engine. High-pressure liquid could penetrate between sealed parts and cause damage.
- Do not spray cold water on a hot engine to avoid causing cracks in the engine block or other components.
- Never wash or rinse the engine while it is running or hot; water on a running engine may cause internal damage.
- Never wash or rinse the ignition coil, spark plug or its seat.
- Cover the battery, the electrical distribution box and the air filter assembly to prevent water damage while cleaning the engine.
