WARNINGS

  • Failure to follow the engine block heater instructions could result in property damage or serious personal injury.
  • Do not use the block heater with electrical systems that are not grounded or with two-prong adapters, as this creates a risk of electric shock.

Note: The block heater reaches maximum efficiency when the outside temperature is below -18 °C (0 °F).

The block heater acts as a starting aid by warming the engine coolant. This allows the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system to respond quickly. The equipment includes a heating element (fitted in the cylinder block) and a wiring harness.

You can connect the system to a grounded 220-240 V AC power source.

For correct and safe use, we recommend that you proceed as follows:

  • Use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use and cold temperatures. It must be clearly marked as suitable for outdoor equipment. Do not use an indoor extension cord outdoors. This may cause electric shock or fire.
  • Use an extension cord that is as short as possible.
  • Do not use multiple extension cords.
  • Make sure the connections between the extension cord plugs and the block heater plugs are clear and not in contact with water. This may cause electric shock or fire.
  • Make sure your vehicle is parked in a clean area with no fuel nearby.
  • Make sure the block heater, block heater cord and extension cord are properly connected.
  • Check that no heat is coming from the electrical connection when the system has been running for about 30 minutes.
  • Make sure you have unplugged and stored the system before starting and driving the vehicle.
Make sure the protective cover seals the prongs of the block heater cord plug when it is not in use.
  • Make sure you have checked that the block heater works properly before winter.
  • Using the Engine Block Heater

The engine block heater plug is located in a compartment to the left of the fog lamp frame. Open the hinged round cover and make sure the terminals of the housing are clean and dry before use. If necessary, clean them with a dry cloth.

The block heater uses between 0.4 and 1.0 kilowatt-hours of energy per hour of operation. The system does not have a thermostat. It reaches maximum temperature after about three hours of operation. Running the block heater for more than three hours does not improve system performance and causes unnecessary electricity consumption.
