Driving Your Vehicle

System Limitations

~4min read

The Smart Cruise Control system may have limitations in detecting the distance to the vehicle ahead due to road and traffic conditions.

On Curves

Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • The Smart Cruise Control system may not detect a moving vehicle in your lane, and your vehicle may accelerate to the set speed. In addition, the vehicle speed will decrease if a vehicle ahead is suddenly detected.
  • Select an appropriate set speed on curves and press the brake or accelerator pedal as necessary.
Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System

Your vehicle's speed may be reduced due to a vehicle in an adjacent lane.

Press the accelerator pedal and select an appropriate set speed. Make sure that road conditions allow the safe use of Smart Cruise Control.

On Slopes

Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • When driving uphill or downhill, the Smart Cruise Control system may not detect a moving vehicle in your lane and your vehicle may accelerate to the set speed. In addition, the vehicle speed will decrease rapidly when a vehicle ahead is suddenly detected.
  • Select an appropriate set speed on slopes and press the brake or accelerator pedal as necessary.

Lane Changes

Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • A vehicle moving into your lane from an adjacent lane cannot be detected by the sensor until it is within the sensor's detection range.
  • The radar may not immediately detect sudden braking of a vehicle. Always pay attention to traffic, the road, and driving conditions.
  • If a slower vehicle moves into your lane, your speed may decrease to maintain the distance to the vehicle ahead.
  • If a faster vehicle moves into your lane, your vehicle will accelerate to the set speed.

Vehicle Detection

Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System

Some vehicles in your lane may not be detected by the sensor:

- Narrow vehicles such as motorcycles or bicycles
- Vehicles offset to one side
- Slow-moving vehicles or vehicles that decelerate suddenly
- Stopped vehicles
- Vehicles with a small rear profile, such as unloaded trailers

The vehicle ahead may not be correctly detected by the sensor if one of the following conditions exists:

- When the vehicle is pitched upward due to heavy loads in the luggage compartment
- While the steering wheel is being turned
- When driving along one side of the lane
- When driving on narrow lanes or on curves

Press the brake or accelerator pedal as necessary.

Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • Your vehicle may accelerate when the vehicle ahead of you moves out of the way.
  • When you are warned that a vehicle ahead is not detected, drive with caution.
Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • When driving in stop-and-go traffic, if the vehicle ahead moves out of the lane, the system may not immediately detect the new vehicle now in front of you. In this case, maintain a safe braking distance and press the brake pedal as necessary to reduce speed and keep a safe distance.
Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • Always watch for pedestrians when your vehicle is maintaining a distance from the vehicle ahead.
Hyundai Elantra. Limitations of the System
  • Always be careful with taller vehicles or vehicles carrying loads that extend beyond the rear of the vehicle.

WARNING

When using Smart Cruise Control, observe the following precautions:

  • If an emergency stop is required, you must apply the brakes. The Smart Cruise Control system cannot guarantee stopping in every emergency situation.
  • Maintain a safe distance depending on road conditions and vehicle speed. If the distance between vehicles is too small while driving at high speed, a serious collision may occur.
  • Always maintain a sufficient braking distance and reduce vehicle speed by applying the brakes when necessary.
  • The Smart Cruise Control system cannot detect a stopped vehicle, pedestrians, or an oncoming vehicle. Always look ahead carefully to prevent unexpected and sudden situations.
  • Vehicles moving in front of you with frequent lane changes may cause a delayed system response, or may cause the system to respond to a vehicle that is actually in an adjacent lane. Always drive carefully to prevent unexpected and sudden situations from occurring.
  • Always be aware of the set speed and the distance between vehicles. The driver must not only rely on the system, but must always pay attention to driving conditions and control the vehicle speed.
  • The Smart Cruise Control system may not recognize complex driving situations. Therefore, always pay attention to driving conditions and control your vehicle speed.

Information

The Smart Cruise Control system may temporarily stop operating for the following reasons:
