Charging System Inspection - Generator Output Voltage Drop Test

~1min read

This test is necessary to evaluate the condition of the wiring from the generator "B" terminal to the battery (+) terminal, including the fusible link.

PREPARATION FOR INSPECTION

1. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.

To accurately locate a fault at the connections, make sure that both terminals and their connections are not disturbed during the inspection.

2. Connect a digital voltmeter to the generator "B" terminal and the battery (+) terminal.

Connect the voltmeter (+) lead to the generator "B" terminal, and the voltmeter (-) lead to the battery (+) terminal.

INSPECTION CONDITIONS

Read the voltmeter with the engine running at idle and the generator loaded with electrical accessories (headlights, blower motor, etc.).

ANALYSIS OF RESULTS

1. The voltmeter should indicate a nominal voltage of 0.3 V.

2. If the voltage drop is greater than 0.3 V, the cause is most likely a wiring fault.

Проверьте проводку от вывода "В" генератора через плавкую вставку до клеммы (+)

Check the wiring from the generator "B" terminal through the fusible link to the battery (+) terminal.

Check the insulation of the wires (no signs of overheating) and the connector contacts. Repair any defects, then repeat the test.

3. After the test is complete, turn off all electrical loads (headlights, blower motor, etc.), then turn off the ignition.
