WARNING

Always follow these instructions when charging your vehicle's battery to avoid the risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from explosions or acid burns:

  • Before performing maintenance or charging the battery, turn off all accessories and place the ignition switch in the LOCK/OFF position.
  • Keep all flames, sparks, or smoking materials away from the battery.
  • Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear protective goggles when inspecting the battery during charging.
  • The battery must be removed from the vehicle and placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Monitor the battery during charging, and stop or reduce the charging rate if the battery cells begin to boil violently.
  • This vehicle is equipped with an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery. Do not charge an AGM battery with a general battery charger. This may damage or explode the AGM battery. Only charge an AGM battery with a charger that has an AGM battery setting.
  • The negative battery cable must be disconnected first and connected last when the battery is disconnected. Disconnect the battery in the following order:
    1. Turn off the power switch.
    2. Disconnect the negative clamp from the negative battery terminal.
    3. Disconnect the positive clamp from the positive battery terminal.
  • Always use an original approved battery when replacing the battery.

NOTICE

AGM Battery

  • Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are maintenance-free. We recommend that the battery be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. To charge an AGM battery, use only fully automatic chargers that are specifically designed for AGM batteries.
  • When replacing an AGM battery, we recommend that you use replacement parts from an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • Do not open or remove the cap on the top of the battery. This may cause internal electrolyte leakage, which may result in serious injury.

Jump Starting

After starting from a good battery, drive the vehicle for 20-30 minutes before turning it off. The vehicle may not restart if you turn it off before the battery has had a chance to recharge adequately. See "Jump Starting" in Chapter 7 for more information on jump starting procedures.

Information

Improper battery disposal can be harmful to the environment and human health. Dispose of the battery in accordance with your local laws or regulations.
