Driving Your Vehicle

System Limitations

~3min read

The Smart Cruise Control system may have limits in its ability to detect the vehicle ahead due to road and traffic conditions.

On Curves

  • The Smart Cruise Control system cannot detect a vehicle moving into your lane, and your vehicle may accelerate to the set speed. Also, the vehicle speed will decrease when a vehicle ahead is suddenly detected.
  • Select an appropriate set speed in curves and press the brake or accelerator pedal as necessary.

Your vehicle's speed may be reduced due to a vehicle in an adjacent lane.

Press the accelerator pedal and select an appropriate set speed. Make sure road conditions allow safe operation of Smart Cruise Control.

On Slopes

  • When driving uphill or downhill, the Smart Cruise Control system cannot detect a vehicle moving into your lane, which may cause your vehicle to accelerate to the set speed. Also, the vehicle speed will decrease rapidly when a vehicle ahead is suddenly detected.
  • Select an appropriate set speed on slopes and press the brake or accelerator pedal as necessary.

Lane Changes

  • A vehicle moving into your lane from an adjacent lane cannot be detected by the sensor until it is within the sensor's detection range.
  • The sensor may not immediately detect a vehicle that cuts in suddenly. Always pay attention to traffic, the road, and driving conditions.
  • If a slower vehicle approaches in your lane, your speed may decrease to maintain the distance to the vehicle ahead.
  • If a faster vehicle moves into your lane, your vehicle will accelerate to the set speed.

Vehicle Recognition

Some vehicles in your lane may not be detected by the sensor:

- Narrow vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles
- Vehicles offset to one side
- Slow-moving vehicles or vehicles suddenly decelerating
- Stopped vehicles
- Vehicles with a small rear profile, such as unloaded trailers

The vehicle ahead may not be detected correctly by the sensor if any of the following occur:

- When the vehicle is tilted upward due to a heavy load in the trunk
- While the steering wheel is being operated
- When driving on one side of the lane
- When driving on narrow lanes or on curves

Press the brake or accelerator pedal if necessary.

  • Your vehicle may accelerate when the vehicle ahead disappears from detection.
  • When you are warned that a vehicle ahead is not detected, drive with caution.
  • When vehicles are stopped and the vehicle in front of you changes to the next lane, be careful when your vehicle starts moving, as it may not recognize the stopped vehicle ahead of you.
  • Always pay attention to pedestrians when your vehicle maintains distance from the vehicle ahead.
  • Always be careful with vehicles of greater height or vehicles carrying loads protruding from the rear of the vehicle.

WARNING

When using Smart Cruise Control, observe the following precautions:

  • If emergency braking is required, you must apply the brakes. The vehicle cannot be stopped in every emergency situation with the Smart Cruise Control system.
  • Maintain a safe distance according to road conditions and vehicle speed. If the distance to the vehicle ahead is too small while driving at high speed, a serious collision may occur.
  • Always maintain sufficient braking distance and decelerate your vehicle by applying the brakes when necessary.
  • The Smart Cruise Control system cannot detect a stopped vehicle, pedestrians, or oncoming vehicles. Always watch the road ahead carefully to prevent unexpected and sudden situations.
  • Vehicles moving ahead of you that frequently change lanes may cause a delayed system response or may cause the system to react to a vehicle that is actually in an adjacent lane. Always drive carefully to prevent unexpected and sudden situations.
  • Always be aware of the selected speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead.
  • The Smart Cruise Control system may not recognize complex road situations, so always pay attention to driving conditions and control the speed of your vehicle.

CAUTION

The Smart Cruise Control system may temporarily not operate due to electrical interference.
