DEPOSIT

  1. If compressor operation is difficult, start the engine and run it at idle, activate the air conditioning for several minutes, then turn off the engine.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  3. Recover the refrigerant using a refrigerant recovery/recharge system.
  4. Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
  5. Remove the bolts and disconnect the suction line (A) and discharge line (B) from the compressor.

    Tightening Torque: 18.6 ~ 28 N·m

    [Kappa Engine]
    [U2 Engine]
  6. Disconnect the compressor switch connector (A).
  7. Remove the compressor (A) by loosening the mounting bolts.

    Torque: 19.6 ~ 33 N·m

    [Kappa Engine]
    [U2 Engine]

Inspection

  1. Inspect the hub and stopper (A) for cracks and other damage. If damaged, replace all parts.
  2. Check the pulley bearing (B) for play and rotational friction. Check the pulley by hand for noise and damage. Replace the assembly with a new one if it is noisy or has excessive play/friction.

Inspection of Compressor External Control Valve (GDS)

Compressor type: fixed displacement compressor, external control valve, internal control valve. For a fixed type and internal control valve, the compressor operation can be checked by the clutch engagement noise. However, if it is an external control valve, it cannot be controlled in this way because it has no clutch. Therefore, the ECV should be checked using GDS as follows.
  1. Connect GDS to the vehicle and select "A/C Compressor Check (ECV type)". [ECV1]
  2. Prepare the vehicle according to the GDS instructions on the monitor (only turn off the A/C switch). [ECV2]
    [ECV3]
  3. Before checking the compressor, check whether any other ECV DTCs are present. If so, troubleshoot them first. Otherwise, press the "OK" button to continue. [ECV4]
  4. Start the inspection [ECV5]
    [ECV6]
  5. Check the inspection result and press "Detailed Inspection". If "Noted", follow the instructions and recheck the ECV, restarting from the first step. [ECV7]
    [ECV8]

REMEDY

  1. Make sure the compressor mounting bolts (A) are tightened to the specified length. Tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque.

    Torque: 19.6 ~ 33 N·m

    [Kappa Engine]
    [U2 Engine]
  2. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.

DISASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the right front wheel. (Refer to Suspension System - "Tire Wear")
  2. Remove the engine undercover. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Assembly")
  3. Separate the front part of the front fender from the wheel arch.
  4. Loosen the drive belt. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Drive Belt")
  5. Remove the clutch bolt (A) while holding the pulley with the clutch bolt puller (09977-25100).

    Tightening torque: 10.0 ~ 15 N·m

  6. Unscrew the stopper bolts (B) and remove the entire hub (A) and stopper.
  7. Remove the pulley (B) after removing the snap ring (A) with snap ring pliers.
  8. For reassembly, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
