The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system assists the driver when backing up by sounding a warning if an object is detected within 120 cm (50 in.) behind the vehicle.

This system is an optional system that detects objects within the range and location of the sensors. It cannot detect objects in areas where sensors are not installed.

WARNING

  • ALWAYS inspect the area around your vehicle to make sure there are no objects or obstacles before moving the vehicle in any direction to prevent a collision.
  • Always pay close attention when the vehicle is approaching objects, especially pedestrians, and especially children.
  • Be aware that some objects may not be shown on the display or detected by the sensors due to object distance, size, or material, any of which may limit sensor effectiveness.

Operating the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System

Operating Condition

  • This system is activated when the ignition switch is ON and the vehicle is in reverse. However, if the vehicle speed exceeds 3 mph (5 km/h), the system may not detect objects.
  • If the vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h), the system will not warn even if objects are detected.
  • When more than two objects are detected at the same time, the nearest one will be recognized first.

Types of Warning Sound and Indicator

NOTICE

  • The indicator may differ from the illustration depending on objects or sensor conditions. If the indicator flashes, we recommend that your vehicle be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI service center.
  • If the warning sound does not sound, or the buzzer sounds intermittently when shifting to R (reverse), this may indicate a malfunction in the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system. If this occurs, we recommend having your vehicle checked by an authorized HYUNDAI service technician as soon as possible.

Conditions Under Which the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) System May Not Operate Normally

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system may not operate normally when:

  • Moisture has frozen on the sensor.
  • The sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or the sensor cover is blocked.

The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system may malfunction when:

  • Driving on uneven road surfaces such as dirt roads, gravel, bumps, or slopes.
  • Objects creating excessive noise, such as vehicle horns, loud motorcycle engines, or truck air brakes, may interfere with the sensor.
  • Heavy rain or water spray is present.
  • Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are located near the sensor.
  • The sensor is covered with snow.
  • Any non-factory equipment or accessories have been installed, or if the bumper height or sensor installation position has been changed.

The detection range may decrease if:

  • The outside air temperature is very hot or cold.
  • Objects smaller than 1 m (40 in.) high and 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter cannot be detected.

The following objects may not be detected by the sensor:

  • Sharp or thin objects, such as ropes, chains, or small poles.
  • Objects that tend to absorb the sensor frequency, such as clothing, porous materials, or snow.

WARNING

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover accidents or damage to the vehicle or injuries to its occupants related to the Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system. Always drive safely and carefully.

  • The Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system may not sound continuously depending on the speed and shape of detected objects.
  • Rear Parking Distance Warning (Reverse) system may malfunction if the vehicle bumper height or sensor installation has been changed or damaged. Any non-factory installed equipment or accessories may also interfere with sensor performance.
  • The sensor may not detect objects within 30 cm (11 in.) from the sensor, or it may indicate an incorrect distance. Be careful.
  • When the sensor is frozen or covered with snow, mud, or water, the sensor may not operate until the contamination is removed with a soft cloth.
  • Do not press, scratch, or strike the sensor with any hard objects, as this may damage the sensor surface. Damage to the sensor may occur.
  • Do not spray high-pressure water directly onto the sensors or the area around them with a high-pressure car wash. Water pressure may cause the system to not operate normally.
