Foot brake
To release the parking brake:
Firmly depress the brake pedal.
Depress the brake pedal to release the parking brake automatically.
If the parking brake is not released (or not fully released), we recommend having the system checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING
- When leaving or parking the vehicle, wait until the vehicle has come to a complete stop, then keep depressing the brake pedal. Place the shift lever in 1st (manual transmission) or P (automatic transmission), then apply the parking brake and turn the ignition to the LOCK/OFF position. Vehicles with the parking brake not fully applied may move and cause injury to yourself or others.
- NEVER allow persons unfamiliar with the vehicle to touch the parking brake. Accidental release may result in serious injury.
- Release the parking brake only while seated in the vehicle with your foot firmly on the brake pedal.
NOTICE
- Do not depress the accelerator pedal while the parking brake is applied. This will trigger a warning signal and may damage the parking brake.
- Driving with the parking brake applied may overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or even damage to its components. Make sure the parking brake is released and the corresponding indicator light is off before driving.

To check the parking brake indicator light, turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting the engine).
This indicator illuminates if the parking brake is applied while the ignition is in the START or ON position. Before driving, make sure the parking brake is released and the corresponding indicator light goes off.
If the parking brake indicator remains illuminated after releasing the brake and the engine is running, the brake system may not be functioning properly. In this case, immediate service is required.
Stop the vehicle immediately if you can do so safely. Otherwise, drive carefully to a place where you can park safely.
