Maintenance

Explanation of Scheduled Maintenance Items

~4min read

Engine Oil and Filter

Engine oil and filter must be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter replacement is necessary.

Seat Belts

Inspect all drive belts for signs of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil saturation, and replace as necessary. Drive belts should be checked periodically for proper tension and adjusted as necessary.

Information

When inspecting the belt, turn the engine off.

Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and Connections

Inspect fuel lines, fuel hoses, and connections for leaks and damage. We recommend that an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately.

Fuel filter

The fuel filter is considered maintenance-free, but periodic inspection is recommended. The replacement interval for this maintenance depends on fuel quality. If there are any important issues, such as fuel flow restriction, surging, loss of power, hard starting, etc., replace the fuel filter immediately. Consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for details.

Vapor Hose and Fuel Tank Cap

The vapor hose and fuel tank cap should be inspected at the interval specified in the maintenance schedule. Your HYUNDAI dealer can help determine whether replacement is needed.

Crankcase Vent Hoses

Inspect the surface of the hoses for signs of heat and/or mechanical damage. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessive swelling indicate deterioration. Pay particular attention to inspecting the hose surfaces closest to strong heat sources, such as the exhaust manifold.

Inspect hose routing to make sure the hoses do not contact any heat source, sharp edges, or moving components that may cause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clamps and couplings, to make sure they are secure and that there are no leaks. Hoses should be replaced immediately if signs of deterioration or damage are found.

Air Cleaner Filter

We recommend that the air cleaner filter be replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Spark Plugs

Be sure to install new spark plugs with the correct heat range.

When installing new spark plugs, make sure the ignition coils are clean and free of any oil or debris. Clean and wipe the lower part of the ignition coil to prevent any contamination of the spark plug during installation.

WARNING

Do not remove the spark plugs when the engine is hot. You may damage the engine and risk burns.

Cooling System

Inspect the cooling system components, such as the radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses and connections, for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Engine Coolant

Engine coolant should be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule.

Automatic Transmission Fluid

The automatic transmission fluid level does not need to be checked under normal operating conditions.

We recommend that the automatic transmission fluid be changed every year by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer in accordance with the maintenance schedule.

Information

The automatic transmission fluid is red when new.

While the vehicle is driven, the automatic transmission fluid will begin to look darker.

This is a normal condition. It is not necessary to replace the fluid based on its color.

NOTICE

Use of an unspecified fluid may cause transmission malfunction and failure.

Use only the specified automatic transmission fluid.

Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid

Inspect the dual clutch transmission fluid according to the maintenance schedule.

Brake Hoses and Lines

Visually check for proper installation, abrasion, cracks, wear, and any leakage. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.

Brake fluid

Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic brake fluid that meets DOT 4 specification.

Parking Brake

Inspect the parking brake system, including the parking brake switch and cables.

Brake Pads, Discs, Calipers and Rotors

Check the pads, disc, and rotor for any excessive wear. Inspect the calipers for fluid leakage.

For more information on checking the wear limit of the pads or linings, refer to the HYUNDAI service information.

Driveshaft and Related Components

Inspect the driveshaft, dust boots, clamps, rubber couplings, and center bearing rubber for cracks, damage, or deterioration. Replace any damaged parts and repack grease if necessary.

Suspension Mounting Bolts

Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage. Tighten to the specified torque.

Steering Gear Box, Linkage and Lower Arm Ball Joint Boots

With the vehicle stopped and the engine off, check the steering wheel for excessive play. Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check the boots and ball joints for wear, cracks, or damage.

Replace any damaged parts.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leaks and damage.
