Maintenance

Explanation of Scheduled Maintenance Items

~3min read

Engine Oil and Filter

The engine oil and filter must be changed at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe conditions, more frequent oil and filter changes are required.

Seat Belts

Inspect all drive belts for signs of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, or oil saturation. Replace them if necessary.

Periodically check drive belts for proper tension and adjust as necessary.

WARNING

Always turn off the engine before inspecting the drive belts.

Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and Connections

Inspect the fuel lines, fuel hoses and connections for leaks and damage. Have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace damaged or leaking parts immediately.

Fuel filter

The fuel filter is considered maintenance-free, but periodic inspection is recommended depending on fuel quality. If there is restricted fuel flow, hesitation, loss of power, or difficult starting, have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer replace the fuel filter immediately.

Vapor Hose and Fuel Tank Cap

The vapor hose and fuel tank cap should be inspected at the intervals specified in the maintenance schedule. Your HYUNDAI dealer can help determine whether replacement is needed.

Crankcase Vent Hoses

Visually inspect for proper installation, chafing, cracks, wear, and any leaks. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.

Air Cleaner Filter

The air cleaner filter should be replaced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Spark Plugs

Always install new spark plugs with the correct heat range.

When installing new spark plugs, make sure the ignition coils are clean and free of any oil or debris. Clean and wipe the bottom of the ignition coil to prevent any contamination of the spark plug well during installation.

WARNING

Do not remove the spark plugs from the engine while it is hot. You may damage the engine and may also cause a burn injury.

Cooling System

Inspect the cooling system components, such as the radiator, coolant reservoir, hoses and connections, for leaks and damage. Replace any damaged parts.

Engine Coolant

Engine coolant should be replaced at the intervals specified in the Maintenance Schedule.

Automatic Transmission Fluid

The automatic transaxle fluid level does not need to be checked under normal driving conditions.

If driving under severe conditions, have the automatic transmission fluid changed by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer according to the severe conditions maintenance schedule.

Information

The color of new automatic transmission fluid is red. As the vehicle is driven, the automatic transmission fluid will begin to look darker.

This is normal, and the automatic transmission fluid does not need to be replaced based on color change.

NOTICE

Use only the automatic transmission fluid specified in the "Recommended Lubricants and Capacities" section in Chapter 10 to prevent transmission damage.

Brake Hoses and Lines

Visually inspect for proper installation, chafing, cracks, wear, and any leaks. Replace any worn or damaged parts immediately.

Brake fluid

Check the brake fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the side of the reservoir. Use only brake fluid meeting DOT 4 specification.

Parking Brake

Inspect the parking brake system, including the cables.

Brake Pads, Discs, Calipers and Rotors

Check the pads, disc, and rotor for any excessive wear. Inspect the calipers for fluid leakage.

Driveshaft and Related Components

Inspect the driveshaft, boots, clamps, rubber couplings and center support bearing for cracks, wear or damage. Replace any damaged parts and repack grease if necessary.

Suspension Mounting Bolts

Check the suspension connections for looseness or damage. Tighten to the specified torque.

Steering Gear Box, Linkage and Lower Arm Ball Joint Boots

With the vehicle stopped and the engine off, check the steering wheel for excessive play. Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check the boots and ball joints for wear, cracks, or damage.

Replace any damaged parts.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant

Check the air conditioning lines and connections for leaks and damage.
