Gasoline Engine

Unleaded

Your new vehicle is designed to operate optimally on unleaded fuel with an octane rating ((R+M)/2) of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher.

Your new vehicle is designed to deliver maximum performance with UNLEADED FUEL only, and to minimize exhaust emissions and spark plug fouling.

Gasoline Containing Ethanol and Methanol

Gasoline-ethanol blends (also known as grain alcohol) are sold together with or instead of leaded or unleaded gasoline. For example, "E15" is gasoline consisting of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.

Do not use gasoline containing more than 15% ethanol, and do not use gasoline or gasohol containing any methanol. Never use leaded gasoline. Use of these fuels may damage the fuel system, engine control system, and emission control system.

Stop using gasohol of any type if problems occur. "E85" is an alternative fuel consisting of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, and is produced exclusively for use in flexible fuel vehicles. "E85" is not compatible with your vehicle. Using "E85" may result in poor engine performance and damage to your engine and vehicle fuel system.

NOTICE

Damage to the fuel system or performance problems caused by the use of these fuels may not be covered by your New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Use of Fuel Additives (Except Fuel Detergent Additives)

Use of fuel additives such as:

- Silicone fuel additive
- Ferrocene (iron-containing) fuel additive
- Other metal-based fuel additives

May cause cylinder misfire, poor acceleration, engine stalling, catalytic converter damage, or abnormal corrosion, and may lead to engine damage that shortens the overall service life of the powertrain.

- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may illuminate.

NOTICE

Damage to the fuel system or performance problems caused by the use of these fuel additives may not be covered by your New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Gasoline Containing MMT

Some gasolines contain harmful manganese-based fuel additives such as MMT (methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl).

HYUNDAI does not recommend the use of gasoline containing MMT.

This type of fuel may reduce vehicle performance and affect your emission control system.

The malfunction indicator lamp on the instrument cluster may illuminate.

Fuel Detergent Additives

HYUNDAI recommends using good quality gasoline treated with detergent additives, such as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, to help prevent deposit build-up in the engine. These gasolines help keep the engine clean and maintain performance and the emission control system. For more information about TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, visit (www.Toptiergas.com).

For customers who do not regularly use TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline and experience starting problems or rough engine operation, a detergent-based fuel additive, which you can purchase separately, may be added to the gasoline. If TOP TIER detergent gasoline is not available, add one bottle of additive to the fuel tank in accordance with the recommended maintenance schedule (see the maintenance schedule in this chapter).

Additives are available at your authorized HYUNDAI dealer along with information on how to use them.

NOTICE

Never add fuel system cleaning agents or other fuel additives to the fuel tank other than HYUNDAI fuel additives to prevent damage to the engine and engine components.

Refer to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer for more information.
